With the 7 series cards coming at the end of the year id keep what your have and when prices drop upgrade your motherboard and buy another 6970 or a 6950 for crossfire. Were only talking a 4 months or so.

It's the best option, If you didn't use Eyefinity then the 5970 would of been worth it but you're too close for comfort in terms of frame buffer limit.

That's why the 6950 and 6970 come with 2Gb frame buffer as standard, Because ATI seen the error of there ways and seen how much 1Gb held back high end cards like the 5970 when running Eyefinity.

Just to get it out there, The 5970 only beats the 6950 in DX9. DX11 and DX10 6950 wins hands down, And plus, The 6950 will be better for crossfire and eyefinity, I don't see why you want to downgrade though?

No it doesn't, The 5970 will hammer it in any game that isn't VRAM bound.

I have no idea were you're getting your mis-information from bout stop spreading false information rolleyes.gif

You are so wrong.

You have 1GB memory buffer, its not like RAM it doesnt add up.

The 5970 has 1GB per GPU.
The 6950 has 2GB.

For eyefinity, stick with the 6950, the more VRAM the better.

The 6950 will NEVER EVER win the hd5970, only if the hd5970 gets VRAM bottlened by some super uber 3x30'' resolution, totally wrong what you said.

The part where you say the hd 6950 will crossfire better is true.

I wasn't spreading false information, Why would i spread false information for?, I was told that 5970 only beats 6900 series in DX9.

I guess you proved me (or people who told me) wrong then, I am sorry for spreading 'False information' to the op.

Before you believe anything someone tells you is true, research.

Otherwise you might buy or do something wrong/overpriced.

IMO to the OP, I would go with the 5970, while yes you may not be able to turn AA quite as high as that's a huge killer on lower memory cards, you will still see improvements over your 6950 - the 6950 isn't strong enough to be able to use its 2GB of frame buffer (just like a single 3GB 580, though its a strong card the 3GB does nothing for it over the 1.5GB as it isn't strong enough to be limited by its frame buffer)

Its a great deal on a 5970 that will dominate most games at good settings smile.gif Just my 2 cents!

Always check back as I frequently edit my post - while we all try to be perfect in the information given, I'm here to learn just as much as you are.

I would have to say stick with the 6950 and save to get another 6950 for your setup.

The 5970 I feel is still the stronger choice even on Eyefinity due to how much faster it is. It might be VRAM bound, but the shear performance makes up vs the 6950 in my opinion.

On the contrary, I would never pickup a last gen video card/CPU as the price/performance isnt' worth it a lot of the times (not always)
