First let me start of by saying WOW. Now that, that is out of the way. Man I have not been keeping up with hardware for years and now I am way out of the loop with what I thought was a groovy rig that still runs well. But now I am running into issues with old hardware and new games.

So without completely breaking the bank, is there any way I could keep this old rig running. The moment I realized I had an issue. New game came out needs minimum support of Shader Model 3.0. The current card only supporst up to 2.0 I also no that the directx version for XP only supports up to 3.0

So I am stuck at a crux find a card to limp along(anybody got any ideas on something or is it time to start preparing myself for a full build and just not letting my wife know about it?

uhmm… im sorry to break it to you but that's pretty ancient hardware :/ your probably better off on a completely new build! You can get a decent gameing rig for around 800 so thumb.gif

Glad to see a 2005 member here smile.gif.
Before we get into anything. what games do you play?
6 years is a little bit too much. even if your PC was a high-end PC in 2006.
PC components in general don't age well and get old pretty fast, unlike consoles.

well to this point it has been America's Army way back in this machines prime and CS:Source even still. I know that it is no where near running BF3 that was kind of what started my mind in turning. But then I picked up CS:GO only to realize the x850xt did not support the 3.0 shader

For any sort of modern gaming you should consider a full rebuild. The X2-3800+ and 2gb ram would become your new bottlenecks if you simply upgraded the videocard and installed Win7.

AMD needs to publish a Business Manual called "How Not to Launch a Product: Learn from our Mistakes and Succeed!".
AMD probably wont tho, because that would be a guaranteed money maker.

I cry a little on the inside. I had a feeling that was going to be the over whelming response from most of you. So who wants to start the I support a new build fund for this 05 member, with and 05 rig? biggrin.gif
