Well, it pains me to say this but goodbye. It's been a good three year run but it's time to move on. I just bought a used 1080 from another OCN member and ordered a block for it.

As much as I wanted to stay with AMD they are just taking too damn long to release a card worth buying.

I'll be selling both my cards and blocks shortly.

Peace out thumbsupsmiley.png

Sorry to see ya go.

I still own a 290, 290x, and a pair of 390x. So I'm not leaving anytime soon until AMD or Nvidia comes out with something I can't resist. Hasn't happened for me yet.

Are you interested in Team Competition folding on your 390X? smile.gif

ehh... not really. I've been looking into Eth mining, but haven't been able to get it working right. So I just decided not to bother with taxing my hardware out of laziness. LOL

What's the cause?

I kinda figure I need a return of some sort to be hitting my hardware 24/7... so I don't fold as a result. I was folding cure coin back when that was a thing. But that has long since been over.

They really need to do an alt coin that mates folding with a coin value if you ask me. We need something for our efforts and the use of our hardware. That's just me though I guess. I don't want to cook my GPU's for nothing ya know?

Such a shame Cure coin didn't last or take off. What a shame.

A brief explanation here as to what folding is:
http://web.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/FoldingFAQ.pdf

As for the Foldathon, it is a two day event where we fold on whatever hardware that we are willing to fold on smile.gif
Team Competition requires you to fold at least 20/7 - 24/7 flat out is better - WHY??? asides from donating folding time to science, it is also kind of fun pushing your hardware to the limits and defeating all other challengers out there; doing it as a part of a team makes it even sweeter.

Hello guys.

After release of RX-480 i have tough choice.

a) Keep my R9-290x and get a better cooler to it.
Since I installed it, the heat from graphics is affecting CPU VRM causing serious trouble.

b) To replace it with RX-480
Almost same performance at lower watts and temperatures. In this case however I am getting into "chip lottery". My current R9-290x is a clear win as I was able to attain really great results while using lapped stock cooler (ASIC above 80%)

Thanks.

The only benefit going for the RX 480 really are the Lower Power Consumption and the VRAM for 8GB versions. Otherwise, you might even see lower performance.

I have had a chance to play with a GTX1060 and even that can be humbled by a 290 let alone a 290X.

i'm an ex 290X Owner. Keep your 290x and wait Vega. My RX480@1400Mhz is only a little better than my old 290X@1125Mhz, no big difference

Agreed, keep your 290x as the performance is pretty much the same and just wait it out to Vega. Only reason I switched to a 470 was my 290x died and at 1350/1800 with aggressive memory timings I'm able to just match the 290x. 290x is a good card, I'd run it into the ground then replace it.
