My 320mb GTS has finally sold and now the time has come for me to finally choose a video card. Here are a few things I'm thinking about:

HD2900XT
-The hardware in it seems superior after reading the Tom's Hardware article on it.
-Drivers are already increasing performance a lot.
-If I get a deal, it's about the same price and outperforms the GTS in > 50% of benchmarks that I've seen.
-It has a flame on it.
-It comes with Team Fortress 2, which I will 100% be buying.

640mb GTS
-I know more or less how it performs due to my 320mb
-Seems to perform at a more stable level, no weird fluctuations of performance.
-Random memory size number.
-Slight brand loyalty

Any help?

I'd choose the 8800GTS 640MB, it's cheaper and I'd assume it has the better driver support. HD2900XT has a really loud fan I heard and it consumes much more power.

I own an HD2900XT and I definitely suggest getting one. For me, the heat and noise are not bad at all like some reviews and some people say. I've never owned or knew somebody that owns an 8800 series card, so I don't know how it performs in relation to that, but by the benchmarks floating around on the net, it seems to perform better on mostly everything. The only drawback is the power consumption. There's my 2 cents.

Well I've definitely got the power for it, my power supply apparently has a dedicated 12V line. Also in looking up prices the cheapest HD2900XT I found was 389, and the cheapest 640mb I found was 354. Sapphire and PNY respectively.

EDIT: Just found a backorder 640mb GTS at Bestbuy for 316... This is a major knockdown in the fight, not a knockout, but certainly an 8-count knockdown

Just to let you know though, I am kind of an ATI fanboy. I really like my card though.

HD2900XT, with the next driver release, it should finally smoke the 8800GTS 640. Right now, its only a little better at times
