Is it a reference HD4850? Those had the single slot cooler, iirc.

At any rate, redirect your case to blow air at it, or really redo the TIM. It's about as easy as a CPU cooler removal/install, but requires more screws, lol

And don't play with the thermal pads on the memory chips and VRMs.

I have redone the TIM, just waiting for my blue led Cooler Master 200x200x30mm megaflow fan, they are out of stock atm (they have red ones, but I need blue!! ). That one will blow air onto the GPU.

They can run cooler if you manually turn up the fan speed. It also depends on your cooler.. the high temps are unlikely to cause damage. .

Yeah, but I just dont want them running at 55%+ fan speed, they are noisy then.

The single slot 4850s do run really hot. A new cooler will do you wonders, I got a Thermaltake DuOrb for one of my 4850s when I ran CrossfireX (won it at a LAN) and my temps dropped from 105c to 50c! No lie, a new cooler would really do you good.

Maybe get an aftermarket cooler. I have the Accelero S1 on my 4870 and even now in summer, it doesn't go past 60C while gaming and it's very quiet with the fan I have.
