Ok so upgrading to a 990fx board soon and also have a option to get a 8350 for 120$ fairly new and not abused, atm i have a 6300 thats very good ocler, currently can hit 4.7 stable with out my vrm going above 90 anything past my psu cannot handle the outage and my board cant handle the watts atm which is why im getting a 990fx board so im pretty sure my cpu has a chance of going 5ghz or above.

now i can get both the cpu and a sabertooth 990fx for 220 local, or the board for 100 would it be worth it to get this new cpu and board or stick with just the fx for awhile. right now im clocking in at 4.7 till i get a new board also have a high end psu coming so power isnt a issue.

theres no real performance issue i notice atm i have a r9 280x and i run anything on ultra with 45-60 frames at 1080p, this is my every day pc but i game alot on it so dont care about rendering etc.....but i understand the 8350 is more future proof but should i dish the money out not broke but my pockets arent over flowing atm...

id oc the **** out of the 8350 but he said he never oc it so im not sure what that could get too............so i guess 6300 @5ghz possibly? vs a unknown 8350? any help would be great thanks.

Wow I got my FX 8350 and Crosshair V Formula-Z for $220 total also. Well from just a few benchmarks there doesn't seem to be a big enough difference between an FX 83XX and FX 63XX in gaming (at same clocks). Some games they will be the same, and some games the 8-core will perform better (little or by a bit). Unless the 8350 is damaged or a really bad lottery draw I think it should OC fine. Like I've read I was able to OC to 4.5GHz at stock clocks (mine is 1.356V I think). So 4.8GHz-5GHz seem possible with a higher VCore. You just want all your supporting components to be of good quality and up to the task. Good cooling for the socket/vrm, good quality PSU, good cooler, etc. Once I get my 200mm fan for the front and 2x 120mm for the side of my case I'm going to go for higher OC than 4.5GHz at stock. I honestly don't know if I would upgrade to an 8350 if I had a 6300 already. i wasn't exactly broke either but have buyers remorse occasionally. But seeing that the 8350 passes Witcher 3's requirements I feel a bit better. Hopefully this chip OCs well

I don't understand... If you've got a good 6300 and are happy with your performance atm, why shell out $220 for a small upgrade, especially if money is tight?

8350s and the sabertooth aren't getting any more expensive, why upgrade now when you can just pay less for them later tongue.gif

Haha, that's true and if people like me would notice that they would have more money, Time goes by price goes down (unless a collectors item). By the time the OPs 6300 feels weak and not enough the FX 83XX probably won't be able to compete anymore.

I say wait also......

If you were sitting on an x4 or FX4*** I could see the upgrade, but FX6300 with your overclock is giving you a decent ride until things change......

Upgrading to anything right now is damn near linear...... for all of us rolleyes.gif

I have had FX 6300 @ 4.5 and my 8350 at 4.5

Honestly they both are great in games and a better gpu is a better upgrade.

Also, we're discussing intel because it seems like there's no way to enforce pure-AMD build threads in this forum. It should be renamed the 'you really want intel instead' forum.

keep the 6300 for now. when you need to upgrade there will be new architecture from AMD and there's always Intel. just make sure you have a good cooler for the cpu.

Well I'm going to say this. For gaming there are a handful of games that can use 6 cores. I don't know any games that can use 8 cores. So for gaming I would keep the FX-6300 and wait to see what AMD have plan in 2016.
