So after my AMD system got destroyed by a PSU failure, I replaced it with the sig Intel parts. I just got my 9600GT in the mail today, and before I replace my 7900GT I figured I'd run a benchmark to see how the E2180 at 2.0GHz compared to my old X2 4200+. The results made me a little sad, see for yourself:

4022 - X2 4200+ at 2.20GHz, memory at 733MHz 4-4-4-12
4882 - E2180 at 2.00GHz, memory at 800MHz 4-4-4-12
5066 - X2 4200+ at 2.73GHz, memory at 1092MHz 5-5-5-15

I knew Intel had the edge, but damn. The E2180 at 2.0GHz almost matched my 4200+ at 2.7GHz, and probably would have tied the 4200+ at 2.6GHz. Hopefully the new Phenoms will be on par with Intel...

On the bright side, I'm very pumped to get this 9600GT going and overclock this rig

Bah! Out with the old. I want to see 10k+.

Though I guess I can sympathize with you. I still miss my Athlon64 3000+. That chip was a heck of an overclocker. Times change, chips change, but it's the overclocking that keeps it fun.

Thanks for the complement. I've had a lot of fun putting this rig together for the past year. I was pertty excited when finally got the FX-60 last week on the cheap. It almost feel like I'm cheating when overclocking now. All I do now is bump up the multiplyer, too easy.

Depressing for AMD. Everyday since the release of Core Duo has been increasingly depressing for AMD. I'd love to see them come out with a new killer chip. Doesn't sound like that is coming anytime soon. Their 45nm chips don't sound like they'll match the current Intel 45nms, much less the upcoming Nehalems.

Well the 2180 was at stock along with the ram and then the 4200 was at 2.7 and the ram was over 1000. Probably why the results were depressing

Edit: Nvm, thought this was depresssing for intel

Haha I'm confident this system will break 10,000. I took out the 7900GT and put in the 9600GT, score went from ~4,900 to a few points over 8,000. I have a feeling that once I overclock the scores are going to soar. My Zalman clip needs to hurry up and get here!

Well, time to send off my 5 mail-in rebates and RMA this 7900GT. **fingers crossed that they send me back an 8800GS** On second thought... fingers crossed they send me back anything (I stupidly scratched off the sticker in my noob days when I first built the AMD rig lol). I have the serial number still on the box, hoping they accept that.
