I have a intel based system right now and always have had, but now i want amd (3700+ or 3800 x2 undecided). Iam worried about doing the upgrade with chipsets. How is windows going to handle it? Do i just put the xp cd in and do a upgrade or do i have to do a complete format?

For best results you must format and reinstall windows. Windows has to load drivers and system settings specific to your new systems. So its just better to format and reinstall.

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.

If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.

As stated above, you need to reformat. However, don't look at it like a negative thing. Keep in mind that a fresh install can greatly speed up a fragged hard drive and cluttered registry. Even when you delete things properly, not all remnants are erased and bog your comp down over time. Backup what you need and start with a fresh hard drive! I try to reformat every few months just to keep my machine running at top speed.

Wouldn't repairing the installation work with xp? I just switched out mainboards, allthough I didnt go from Intel to Amd. But just using the repair option kept my system the same.

You can copy the game files and your outlook files to a cd or alternate hard drive then move them back to your main pc or harddrive when you are done.

did you mobos have different chipsets? Iam going backup all the stuff i need on my other hard drive and try to do the update/repair first. If that doesnt work then ill do the full format. And i know that about outlook and the games but i would like to know where the specific file is with all the addresses and saved games.
