Well, I got my hands on a nice Opteron 144, stepping CAB2E 0546BPMW.

I started my overclocking adventure Saturday night. A 9 hour prime test has declared it stable this morning, with a speed of 2808mhz, and my memory running on a 5/6 ratio.

Today I may try to get my RAM stable at a 9/10 ratio, so it would be running at about 280mhz.

Other Opteron 144 overclockers, I implore you, post your overclocks!

Well, my PSU is undervolting the CPU, so CPU-z reads 1.632 when it's really set to something like 1.66.

My load temp is 49-50c, but I'm reseating today and reapplying AS5 because I think I put too much on the first time.

I have a few questions about clocking an Opteron 144. If you could kindly answer them I would be most pleased.

What mother board do you recommend to for overclocking the Opteron 144?

I understand that an 144's maximum multipler is x9, if this is true then I would require a mother board that can ideally be stable at FSB of 330+. Is this possible on Asus A8N boards or should I opt for a DFI SLi board?

How do the CPU multiplers vary across the over Opteron 939 chips.

Did you have to up grade you Bios to run the Opteron 144?

Cheers

Actually, if I was a MB maker, I'd be getting :swearing: and then doh.gif and eek.gif and laugher.gif @ that pile of :turd: concept of marketing.

Q
1. DFI, make sure you are familiar with a bios before buying

2. Yes you need a board stable beyond 300 to get HIGH clocks. I would again recommend DFI.

3. Multipliers = 144 x9, 146 x10, 148 x11, 150 x12.

4. You dont have to upgrade the bios. On DFI boards, it's best to upgrade because stability and overclocking potential can be increased with a better bios.

That should be all, go here to learn more on the DFI boards.
