Sig rig is the new build, to me, it seems like it isnt bang for buck, am I wrong?

Motherboard - MSI 790FX-GD70 - $149.99 <-- blew up
CPU - Phenom II X6 1055T - $201.99
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 2x2GB 1600MHz - $123.99
GPU - MSI R5770 Hawk - $189.99
PSU - Corsair 650HX - $129.99
Case - CM 690 II Advanced - $99.99
Cooler - Corsair Hydro H50 - Purchased - $62.92
HDD - WD Blue 1TB - $79.99

and add another $30 on 2 Antec SpotCools so I can put them on the heatsink when the board is back from RMA, plus another $20 or so bucks for 2 fans for push/pull on the H50.

What parts should I have gotten instead?

Notebook: ASUS A52J - Core i5-430M, ATI Mobility Radeon 5470 1 GB GDDR3, 4 GB DDR3 1066MHz, 500 GB 5400 RPM Seagate Momentus, 15.6" LED Backlit 1366x768

Planned upgrades:
SSD
More RAM

id say you did fairly well. its remarkably similar to my system, only gripe would be the WD blue, a black would be preferable. the GD70 is an awesome bored, sucks that yours died, but get it replaced and it will make you happy

Nice build, sorry about the mobo .

I don't understand what happened to the price of ram.. I got mine for 84.99 on newegg and it wasn't on sale then it suddenly bumped up over 40 bucks. Maybe if you got a few extra bucks think about getting a faster boot drive.. or I guess save for an SSD which I didn't do

Black would have been an extra $30 and I just needed it for storage, I'm gonna keep using my Scorpio Black for Windows/Apps for now and gonna save up for 32GB SSD.

Overclocking, 4GHz @ 1.4v, couple minutes of prime95, comp turned off, wouldnt turn back on, small smell of burning came from northbridge, i kept trying to turn it on and it started smoking and then fire came out from under the heatsink.
