You'd most likely get a higher OC with the DFI expert and phase change than you would with the MSI and phase change. I look at system performance differently, I guess. I look at total money available and try to create the best gaming rig within that amount. I dont' find it important to squeeze 50mhz out of a cpu, but rather, look at overall system performance. I think it's funny that people spend $200 on a motherboard and then spend $180 on a cpu. I'd much rather bump up the cpu to a 3700 from a venice and get a $80 motherboard, but that's just me.

Question....why are you asking about phase change for a friend that knows nothing about computers?

Because he is really building it for himself or has already made up his mind on what he wants and just wants you to agree with him so he feels better about what he is getting.

I agree with you on spending 80 bucks on an MB and putting a Sandy on it. Seems to much computer for someone who has NO experience with high end computers and OCing. Asus makes a nice $90 mobo that OCs my Sandy quite well....3000 Mega Cycles.

If this mate is thinking of phase then maybe you would want the DFI board. There is a lot of learning to do with a DFI and the options are there for the new up-coming tweaker. If your mate does not want to tweak and just game then spend your money elsewhere like the cheaper mobo and dont get the phase change. If you go extreme cooling then you may as-well go extreme components. The best of everything for the best cooling, or a very good mobo (msi) and average cooling. Why spend the money on phase when you could go sli and have things stock and out perform the overeclocked rig with phase. Spend wisely. Gees you could go and build a socket 754 sempron rig with a x1900xtx for a min price and still have very good performance, there is lots of options.

Hey guys,

What about cooling wise? should I grab an XP-90C or go for the TT Big Typhoon?

And the processor decision.. Opty 146 or 3700+ San Diego

I decided on the ASUS A8N5X for the mobo.

I just want to make sure this is like 99% perfect for his next four years at college. Once I build it, the only thing he is going to do is game, process word documents, file sharing, and dusting it I'm taking my time on the final decision because of feats like the mobo. It is clear to me now that he is not going to be tweaking the mobo that much so he's not going to need that. Maybe put that extra money towards the GTX or save it? Will the 3700+ bottleneck the GTX, like I asked earlier?

Also: He told me he wanted a see through case. Do you guys have any suggestions of good acrylic cases?

sorry last edit.. if I go 3700+ SD, should I get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103622

E4 stepping. Got mine about 2.5 weeks ago. KAB3E. F'ing rocks. It cost a few $$ more but the stepping is worth it. Which why I think newegg raised the price of them over the E6 stepped ones. I have yet to see an E6 OCed on here but I am sure someone has one.

Hey guys, I talked to the guy and he definitley wants an acryllic case. I decided on http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811166007 because of the reviews I read. Seems pretty solid.

I was also wondering if I should get a 150gb Raptor for $280 or just get a 200gb hard drive for $100....
