Athlon II x4 640 - $100
ASRock K10N78M-PRO GeForce 8200 board - $52
OCZ Special Ops 1600 CL8 - $40, $30 AR
Seagate 1TB - $55 after promo code
Genica 7B-550W case [Geeks] - $32
LITE-ON 24X - $16 shipped after promo code
$295, $285 AR. You have been beat. What's better:
1. Motherboard with full HD capable graphics (incl. all forms of video acceleration & flash 10.1/10.2 acceleration - 760G is partial video acceleration, no flash accel)
2. Better than generic RAM (Much better actually), more ideal for overclocking
3. 550W power supply (going by the idea that either this or the Coolermaster PSU in the Elite 310 are both on the generic side, not 80+ rated, etc. I'd consider this an improvement)
4. Same hard drive space

get a cheaper HDD, 500gb for that price is too much.

Here's my recent build - it was about $500 total.

ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 Motherboard - $109
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-668-_-Product

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Callisto Black Edition (3.2ghz - mine overclocked to 4.02 no problem) - $90
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-846-_-Product

CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ CPU Cooler - $30
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-065-_-Product

WD Caviar Blue 500GB - $49
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-073-_-Product

Xigmatek Asgard Case - $40 (currently out of stock)

Antec 650w PSU - $90
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-015-_-Product

I got 8gb ram, sure you wouldn't need that for a computer just for watching movies and stuff. This should do:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-310-_-Product

Only $40

ASUS 24x dvd burner - $18

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135204

That puts the total at about $470 - then shipping costs probably only like $10 - $30 putting you at your total of $500.

Not bad for dual core 4ghz, 4gb ram, great mobo, 500gb hard drive and good PSU.

Yeah, that RAM would be a major downgrade because you are not only getting 1 DIMM (single channel - dual channel is aside from NB clock the single biggest performance boost you can get), it's generic 1333 CL9. Say goodbye to a huge chunk of performance.
Best alternatives at similar price range:
Kingston HyperX Blu 1600 CL9 2x2 - $50, $35 AR
OCZ Special Ops 1600 CL8 2x2 - $40, $30 AR

The absolute best 500GB HDD deal is Samsung F1 500GB for either $40 or $35 if you're a member on Mwave (free membership)

HEC Blitz is better than Elite 310 for $5 less. Black interior, fans, great layout/build quality/features.

The last thing, save $3 on the DVD drive: Lite-ON 24X, $16 shipped after promo code.
