Since my old Gigabyte G33 board got screwed because of a faulty PSU, I figured I'd buy a new MoBo, CPU, and PSU.

They're as follows: DFI Lanparty 790FX, Athlon 64 LE-1640, and a Antec TruePower Quattro 1kW.

I have a Sapphire HD3870 on the table (Don't know whether it still works or not, thanks to that PSU, I can still get a replacement on that, though.) And a 2 gig kit of Kingston DDR1066 going thru the RMA channel at Newegg. Should all be here by Thurs. or Fri.

Just read the reviews of that CPU at Newegg, it would appear to be a gem.

Think it'd fill the needs of games like Crysis or Oblivion fairly well?

Shout out to whomever sold me this OCZ RAM! It's amazing!

nononono that processor.... wooow. no. definatly not.

You definatly need a dual core if you wanna play crysis.
Something like this.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103228

As for power supply, the 1kw is completely overkill for you system.

Something like this is more appropriate
OCZ GameXStream 700w

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002

By switching the two things you save 110$ on the power supply and that 110$ goes strait into getting you the "best" dual core AMD has to offer.

Well, I can give you my advice: update your old system, don't go AMD.

ABIT IP35E on Newegg: $60
Dual Core Pentium E2140: $72
ANTEC Earthwatts 500w PSU: $55

If you MUST go AMD, treat yourself to a $99 5000+BE and an appropriate motherboard(which is probably not much faster than the Pentium, but oh well).

You still aren't going to be able to play Crysis at high resolutions or anything like that, but with a solid GPU like that you should be able to play virtually anything else if you overclock a cheap high-yield CPU like the above.

If you have some extra cash relative to the above you could just go for an e6550 Conroe (a real step up from dual core pentium e21xx) for $170. The Earthwatts is a great value as PSU's go.

If a friend of mine ever gets a new processor, I can get a 6000+ for $95. Can't believe the BE 5000+ is only $99, but my plans were to upgrade from the A64 to a Phenom once (if...) AMD gets their things straight, and use that for a long while, at least until they get as out of date as, say, the Athlon XP (3200+) is now.

Oh, the 1kW is for the future, I like to add things, and if the AM3's will be backward compatible as they say, I should last a good 5 or 6 years. (Celeron 466 right here is 10 years old. Also really slow on the same token.)

And I'm going to be doing Crossfire sometime in the future. It won't be a screaming monster, but if I wanted that, I would've gone Intel/SLI.
