Is it required to install the divider for the middle and lower part of the case?

Yes it is (for structural integrity) and to support the MB tray.

Can't it be replaced by the vertical/horizontal bars instead for support or is it still not enough?

The horizontal supports are designed to be used on the outside edge of the frame. It would be a significant mod to support the tray and remove the mid plate.

As long as you have a single bank of fans - yes. Otherwise there isn't enough span between the mounts (217mm) for P/P
