Images are always compressed to less than 100kb each and also resized to either 320x320 or 640x640, for your ease of viewing thumb.gif

HEY GUYS!

This is my third case mod on Overclock.net and I figured out I would try something a lot different with cases.
And instead of MODIFYING a case, I decided to MAKE one
.

After going through loads of Metal cutting Dremel discs and eating through sheets of case metal I have decided to do some wood-working.

YES Despite being a case made entirely of 7mm plywood, PVA strength glue and screws, this case will be holding WATERCOOLING COMPONENTS

This will be frequently updated during the school holidays, weekends and on school days I will only do planning and the odd gluing or minor jobs.

From this modification, I hope to gain experience with woodworking and more with the modding world, but ultimately I hope to end up with a sexy new case to stuff with overclocking hardware (:

As the name has already suggested, this will have separate compartments and the ideal structure of a computer will be exploded and reassembled into "Annexed".

With the plans all ready...
May the journey begin~

Update 1

So, I kicked this modification off just today (and days before, but they were just collection of components thumb.gif )
I had left-overs from my previous case mods, i.e the Darkc0d3r which I haven't finished and won't be finishing.
Stuff includes a Thermochill PA.120.3, assorted fans, nuts + bolts, I/O Panles, cables and lots more stuff.

I guess the best components I have are my Cougar Vortex 120mm fans, Thermochill PA. 120.3 radiator and my fan controller
redface.gif
img1323q.jpg

img1363zq.jpg

Finally got the ISO right for this image; this shows the true sexy orange of Cougar Vortexes

img1352bu.jpg

img1325g.jpg

Now it's time to get some actual work done.
Bought some Plywood from Bunnings Warehouse just yesterday (for all ya Aussie viewers)

img1344u.jpg

img1345a.jpg

A pretty beautiful piece of plywood I have to say, was the best out of the whole pile anyways.
img1347a.jpg

No knots no nothing.
img1348n.jpg

Also purchased a 2pack of brass plated Hinges which will serve as something I will explain later.
img1350y.jpg

Time to get this beauty cut-up to my liking, wood and sketchup model on laptop all ready.

img1367rb.jpg

img1368f.jpg

The "workstation" I have to work on at the moment, the shed is too full and hot for my liking.

img1371vo.jpg

img1372e.jpg

Hack saw! I started feeling the difference now, back then all I did was flip out the Rotary Tool and slap on a Dremel Cutting disc. Only just starting to get used to the whole wood-working idea

img1373wi.jpg

BECAUSE I WAS TOO BUSY WITH CUTTING. I didn't take any pictures of the cutting process, so all I hvae to say at the moment is: "I need to start sanding the edges down"
Now here is when the trouble began.... all I had was sand paper and the highest grit garnet abrasive sheets took a truckload of time to get it down to THIS. (partly because of my horrible hack-sawing)

img1374y.jpg

Resorted to using sanding barrels, they were a definite no no, stupid OZITO accessories were a waste of time and money.

img1375ps.jpg

Well I'm going to be going off to purchase some kind of sanding tool tommorow at Bunnings again, for the moment here is a little mock set-up of what the panels will be like when placed in their final set-up

img1378vr.jpg

2 Compartments, 1 for the main hardware and the other for cooling, power and harddrives.

img1379wf.jpg

Can't wait to paint these things : D

Well anyways I'll be posting an update early tommorow (because I've basically purchased the tool and it's right here).
I have already sanded the edges down for the panels and some other stuff so stay tuned for tommorow's update.!

Stay tuned for more!

Fixed sir redface.gif And just after I threw up the first update.
It's probably because I cleared up my ImageShack space, I deleted the uploaded pictures along with the old ones haha

Update 1.5

Okay so I'm on early to fix up another update for this work log. biggrin.gif
This is what I bought at Bunnings yesterday:

img1381d.jpg

img1382e.jpg

img1383et.jpg

Opening up!

img1384ha.jpg

img1385dr.jpg

Spare gear or something like that.

img1386g.jpg

Here's the belt sander; it was much larger than I thought it would be hahaha

img1387j.jpg

Everything ready to go!

img1388rh.jpg

img1389gb.jpg

Practicing on some spare plywood... this thing chunks away a lot if you're not careful and even with your work tongue.gif
If you guys look closely below you can see the ridges where there is a depressison on the surface.

img1390iz.jpg

img1391dw.jpg

Clamped down on a ghetto bench vice biggrin.gif

img1392cf.jpg

Quick clamps are SO handy now that I own them, they make life so much easier for modding and cutting.

img1393l.jpg

And a bucket of rain water to use as a heavy weight.

img1394ie.jpg

What wood turns into when you sand it down; IT'S SNOWING : D

img1395cc.jpg

Time to fix up the edges. While I was using the Hacksaw the edges sometimes split (as the hacksaw really isn't a neat tool) so I have to putty them up and sand them down later.

img1396xm.jpg

I KNOW THAT IT'S CEDAR PUTTY and the colour of my plywood is cream, but I will be painting and lacquering the planks of wood so it'll be all good.

img1399j.jpg

So that's all I did yesterday hahaha.... although it may have many pictures all I have done is sanded and puttied 3 panels of "Annexed"
There should be time today but the weather looks as if it won't hold up so I shall see if I have time to work on it today.

The top edge of the chair is now fully flat, I guess this would be great for a Ghetto benchvice afterall

img1398hn.jpg

Anyways, this concludes the second update of my worklog.

Feel free to put in a comment! Though I know how OCN works with case-mod worklogs (:
Stay tuned for more!

Update 2

Woot so I got a few stuff done last night, mainly sanding, finishing the HDD mounting and mock assembly of the panels.
The putty dried up well last night, and now it's fit for sanding.

img1401y.jpg

Now with the panels done, I'll be moving on to the Harddrive Cage.
With CM Storm Scout users this may be familiar, why? Because this was extracted from my Scout case from my first mod

img1403ol.jpg

I have a stack of these HDD rails which attach onto the Harddrives like so, it'll be a waste of case if I don't integrate it into "Annexed"

img1404e.jpg

They slide into the 'slots' in the HDD cage lie so:

img1405dy.jpg

img1406j.jpg

Now, my aim is to secure or make a wooden base for the HDD cage so it can be stable.
First up is measuring.

img1407us.jpg

img1408y.jpg

My neighbor's drill and my belt sander, man if I didn't buy the belt sander everything would be so much harder right now.
I RECOMMEND THE BELT SANDER TO ALL WOODWORKERS, IT'S A MUST!!

img1409tx.jpg

See? Such straight finished cannot be accomplished without a proper sanding tool.

img1410x.jpg

Now fitted on:

img1411zh.jpg

Mounting holes marked out (intersection of lines)

img1412o.jpg

Since my neighbor doesn't have any drill bits small enough I'm going to have to use my own Ozito rusty drill bits.

img1413tq.jpg

But they still do the job well!

img1415xr.jpg

img1419k.jpg

Top is bolted on.

img1418hm.jpg

Now just to tell you guys, the HDD cage will be lying HORIZONTALLY like so:

img1422n.jpg

Reason being is the Thermochill PA.120.3 cannot fit if it is standing verytically, and also it looks cooler lying down : D

With the second attachment:

img1423rw.jpg

And to explained my arrangement, the HDD cage will be REMOVABLE in case I need to access the POWERSUPPLY which is mounted behind it. So what I have made is a 'sliding' mechanism where the HDD cage will slide along its wooden 'buffers' along a ceratin wooden bar which I will be making.
Everything will make sense soon guys!

img1424m.jpg

Can you guys see the little piece of wood on the left? That is NOT going to be glued onto the HDD wooden plate and instead will be glued to the base of the case, the bolts you see on the right will slide into GROOVES I will make on the right panel.

img1428bw.jpg

Also, something cool I found out.
Mounting the belt sander on its back, it allows me to simply sand a piece of small wood (the buffers) easily, and the edges are super straight. And again, the belt sander is EPIC

img1425p.jpg

That was last morning, now I'll get onto the REAL set-up so you guys can get a clearer idea.

img1432jc.jpg

All the stuff.

img1435c.jpg

LOL! Penguin power

img1436st.jpg

A gigabyte mATX board and an 8400GS for modelling.

img1437k.jpg

It shall be mounted onto the 'column panel' which you guys will see later.

img1439s.jpg

SO HERE IT IS:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
img1441c.jpg
img1442ht.jpg
img1443r.jpg
img1444cu.jpg
THE COOLING COMPARTMENT:
img1445w.jpg
HARDWARE COMPARTMENT:
img1446hi.jpg
Still having a think about the cooling of the Northbridge and southbridge.
img1447j.jpg
So I hope that has given you guys a much cleaer idea on what this will be looking like.
And that's really it for now, I will be purchasing more Plywood panels for the BASE and the TOP PANEL sooner or later so stay tuned guys!
Please drop a comment and suggestions or just anything will be okay!
