both would look great so its up to you which you prefer doing. maybe some combination of both? Hi polished shiny inside, with some nice color on the outside + some subtle lighting inside that contrasts the outside paint color? Just an idea

I have two blue led fans and two 25cm bue cathode lights. Do you think it would look good having the polished interior with the blue lights and the outer case a gloss black/ Matte Black?

HA HA! Some filthy nerd gave me a dam virus!!!! Couldnt Ctrl+Alt+Delete and start menu was missing heaps of stuff and i kept getting fetish porn short cuts on my desktop (i did not get this virus from porn by the way) and plenty of annoying pop ups wanting to scan for viruses and download software to get rid of it and security alerts and all plenty of pop ups saying my CPU was running slow.
Well.. i showed it who is boss!!! Nothing beats booting in safe mode, launch system restore and set it back to a previous point. If that wont fix it nothing will and its time for a fresh re-install.

Sounds like the same virus I had recently - it came down from a fake AVG antivirus website.

But first of all MASSIVE respect to you for building your own case from ground up

+rep

While I agree that it would look great either polished or painted, I also image this case would look great as a 'half rusted piece'o junk straight out of STALKER' - Im talking theme here

Realistically though I think CuttleRustler's idea of mixing colour and mirror finish sounds good

That rust/stalker idea sounds like an awsome them but after investing in aluminium i think it would be best to polish some of it instead of the opposite. And im not sure if you can actually rust aluminium. It oxidises with the atmosphere and a thin white film forms over it to prevent it from further corrosion.
I thought maybe the outside of the case i could have some sort of design that covers it. The image is made up of two colours... the black and polished aluminium. But what sort of design??? And where will i be able to get a template from if its really complicated?

Thanks for the rep to!

Most of the things that people make are variations on a theme. The theme is such because the model is the one that most suits the needs of the object.

For example, all wheels are round (not trying to be an arse, or snide... merely a blatantly obvious design concept) as nothing else will do for that particular job.

That being said and functionality aside, there is a great deal of satisfaction and pleasure from looking back at project (regardless of nature) and saying,

"Yeah, I made that with my own 2 hands. Sure, it may be very similar or exactly like something else... but I made it myself".

Again, I mean no disrespect but imho a labor of ambition and love is unique.

Indeed, Smokies design follows the timeless design of an ATX case... but it is crafted with his hands. Imho that alone makes it priceless.

Wow... I mean wow... That should be a country song or something. I never knew people got so passionate over computer cases. I can appreciate good craftmanship as much as the next guy, and I applaud this guy for building this case from scratch, but the thing I was wondering about was why not incorporate some unique touches to his case that will take this case from normal to unique, since he is building from scratch.

I mean, I use a Antec 1200 case right now which I bought for $150. Nothing special, just plain case that is both large and functional. But while I was putting together my computer, I found at least 5 things that I wish was different. For instance...

1. Slots on the bottom of the PSU bay so that PSU can be mounted the right way instead of upside down, in order for the fan to have some vents.

2. Slots that would allow for reverse mount of HDDs.

3. Fan filters that would allow for easier removal and cleaning.

4. More noise dampening so it won't be so loud.

5. 2nd Side fan to keep GFX card cooler.

So why not incorporate some of the things that major ATX cases can improve on?

Well i have already drilled the holes for the psu. I dirilled on set one way and the othe set the other way so that the PSU, depending on its positioning of its fans can be the right way up or up side down. I also am going to buy some struts, so when i undo the side pannel the side will automatically pop up as the scews are taken off so it would look like it is on hydrolics and im still concidering putting a window on the top. And i dont mind a bit of noise. I can never hear it because i always have my 5.1 caranked.

I will do anothe build in a couple of years time. Im only 17 and havnt had much experience and i had no blue prints to go off of. I just made it up as i went along. So this one is a bit primative. But when i do my second build in a year or two i will definetly be doing something more extream and personal.

Dude... I say kudos to you my young man. At 17, I didn't have motivation to do much of anything let alone build me a computer case. Everyone has to start somewhere... I am sure your next case will be better than this one, and I am sure the next one will be better than that one, until we probably won't need computer cases anymore at all. I wish you all the best in your project and I will be watching very closely to your updates.

As far as finishing your case to a polished finish, I think that brushed aluminum effect is really cool. I have seen some elevator doors which has symmetrical patterns of what seems to be a circular sanding marks, and I always thought that was really cool. I think there is something sexy about something being raw. I like welding marks and rivets that hold things together vs. polished automotive paints that looks like it could crack any minute. As for the side door idea... That's what I am talking about! Make it your own.

Painted the bolts that hold the fans on black this afternoon. Did some research and some testing as well. I need something to remove the thin layer of oxidised aluminium. I tested zinc chloride and caustic soda. Caustic soda worked the best but i only had a little bit so i will have to pick up a jar of it in my lunch break tomorrow. I will be pollishing the inside of the case, and the out side of the case will be a mixture of gloss black and brushed aluminium and i will than polish it all and coat it with spray on silicon so it does not tarnish. So hopefully i will be able to pick up my supplies tomorrow.
