Hello

I was planning to use my dremel today to drill some cable management holes in a antec 900 however i am concerned if the sparks it produces may ignite lawn mower fumes that are present in my work area. Is this a safety hazard?

If it's well-ventilated, it shouldn't cause a lot of problems, but I wouldn't risk it until you know it's completely safe.

All I have to say is common sense comes in to play. If you are going to use a dremel and knowing that sparks and going to be present,.. with any fumes present that is not a good idea.

By fumes, do you mean near an area where you have recently run a lawn mower?

If so, then you should be perfectly fine creating sparks.

Do you mean gasoline fumes? if so then do it in another room. If grass fumes then you'll be perfectly fine.

I have never had any problems running my lawn mower in the area where I work with my dremel.

I work in a garage full of atvs and motorcycles and have no problem with sparks despite the multitude of gasoline cans etc around. metal sparks won't ignite fumes unless you're using a welder or plasma cutter and you would still have to be close.

Sparks will only cause gasoline fumes to ignite if you're in an enclosed space and there's a high percentage of the gas/suspended liquid present in the air.

Burning books is like burning bras; after the adrenaline rush of the symbolic moment wears off all you're left with is a pile of ashes and unsupported boobs.
