I am looking to replace my GTX 285 with something more efficient and which consumes less power at idle and load while performing similar to or better than the 285. Nothing is wrong with my 285 except that i noticed that my power bill spikes up if i have long gaming sessions. So please suggest an idle replacement card from the current generation. Thanks.

here is power draw for a 1 Ghz PCS+ HD 7850

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_7850_PCS_Plus/26.html

Peak - 112w (Crysis 2)

For a 1080p monitor I would say HD 7850. Even overclocked to 1.2 Ghz it won't draw any more than 140w - 150w. Because it has only 1 6 pin PCI-E power connector. Also for a 1080p monitor HD 7850 is enough. But if you want 60 fps in the most demanding games like BF3, Crysis 2 at the highest settings and can afford a GTX 670 get that card. its power efficient.

GTX 670. Power usage is only a little more than 7870 but much faster.

I was also thinking to get back to folding. With the new architecture is the 670 GTX good at folding? I got the 285 for about 400 $, i guess 670 would be ideal...
