f.b.
I would look at an X1950PRO with high clock speeds and the AC X2 cooler on it already.

HDR + AA!!!

I purchased mine from ewiz.com for $256. So I guess it technically isn't under $250, but skip 3 cups of coffee this week and you'll have enough...

When it comes to the 250$ market, you might as well bundle it in with the 150$'s as well.

Basically:

7900GS is the cheapest in the category, but it OC's better than 7900GT, and probably competes with a stock 7950.

The x1950 pro gets wiped out by any 79xx, including an OC'd 7900GS. Even more so on 1280x1024 There are plenty of tests to prove this.

If you want the HDR + AA, get the x1950 pro i guess.

x1900xt will compete with 7950 and a heavily oc'd 7900GS, but i'm not entirely sure how it OC's itself so i don't know where it will end up.

the x1950xt is the only card that will actually give you measurable amounts of higher preformance, but you'll be hard pressed to find one for a good sub-250$ pricetag.

So overall, the 7900GS is not only the cheapest, but probably the 2nd best in the lot. I really don't see any point in forking over more money than 150$ for a 7900GS unless you want to go for the 270$ish x1950xt. Then you will notice a preformance boost.

Edit:
My bad, whoever found that sappire x1950xt is a god. +1 rep from me.

just got me a macbook, but it can play cod4!
