Its just a gimmick. When you wear them, the 2d screen is projected in front of you. Its like that nintendo "virtual reality" system that used to be around many many years ago.

The Nintendo VirtualBoy was true 3D. A different image was sent to each eye. 3D shutter glasses for computers work on similar principles. Anaglyph and polarized displays are other options to accomplish the same thing.

Anyway, the pruduct in the OP's link is nothing new, and there are many other, superior kinds available.

NVIDIA has had a 3d-stereo display driver for quite a while, and there are 3D versions of many games out that support it.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d_stereo.html

Essentially it causes the monitor to display two distinct images, while the glasses prevent the left eye form seeing the image meant for the right eye and vice versa.

All you need are a game and drivers that support it. It's nothing so fancy as the glasses themselves being displays (or the cost would be extreme).

...rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual. -- Thomas Jefferson
