I haven't noticed any additional input lag with D3D overrider in any of the games I play compared to vsync off. I can't say for sure, since I don't know of a method of testing that. But according to the anandtech article, there is theoretically little to no input lag due to triple buffering.

What I can tell you for sure is that there is no performance hit when using forced triple buffering (Guild wars 2/Unigine Heaven benchmarked with FRAPS).

So unless you are playing at 120 FPS, there is no reason not to have it on. If you are playing at around 60 FPS or lower, it's superior to adaptive vsync in every way. It is also superior to no vsync in every way and superior to frame rate limiting in every way.

There is really no reason to have a "bench off" in response to this review....
The proof is already in the benches in the thread I have posted.

Wow, that's pretty friggin epic. I had no idea that 7950's were doing 11.8K GPU score on 3dMark11 nowadays. I do rather wish he'd posted his clocks, whether or not that's air-cooled, etc, but still ... awesome-sauce.

Might have to pick me up a (or couple of) 7950's at some point.

But ... all due respect ... we can go ahead do bench-off's if we feel like it wink.gif

Wow ... that's 10.5% better than my old GTX 670 eek.gif.
That is a significant difference considering HD 7950 is cheaper ...

It's still surprising to me to see ppl remark on the clock for clock speed differences. You guys didn't know this? The 7950 runs the same silicon, it's only handicap is the lower binning, limited shaders and heavy underclock. Kepler needs over 100-150mhz overclock to match.

I got an pm from Junkboy asking to compare my two rigs since I run both 7970s and a 680.

Both cards clocked to 1300 core and 1750 memory (7000 effective). The 680 is actually running slightly higher clocks, 1305/1752 -ish. Systems are very close, almost identical in the most respects, SSD RAID 0, 16GB Samsung wonder ram @ 2133 (same timings), watercooled cpu/gpu/vrm, etc...

The 7970 setup. You can also look at the rigs in my sig rig.

3930k is limited to 4 cores. I ran cinebench to confirm performance is the same. They should be since it's the same IPC. After running cinebench, I have to barf a little when I think about how much two cores costs in relation to the 3820 lol.

3820@4.8ghz (37x 130) - 9.32pts

3930K@4.8ghz (48x100) - 9.35pts

Benches, 680 list first/top:

3dmark 11

310.33 - P11496

310.54 - P11342

forgot to make a screen, will update with a screen

12.11B4 - P12283

**The physics scores match up pretty darn good all things considered.

Heaven 3.0

310.33 - 61.5 FPS

310.54 - 61.5 FPS

12.11B4 - 64.9 FPS

Metro 2033

310.33 - 85.37 FPS

310.54 - 84.65 FPS

12.11B4 - 106.47 FPS

Sleeping Dogs

310.33 - 54.6 FPS

310.54 - 54.0 FPS

12.11B4 - 69.1 FPS

**I had to run the 7970 at 1295/1750 on 12.11 whilst using Afterburner. AB cannot feed as much voltage at that clock to the 7970 and 12.11 betas are finicky as all get out. Nv drivers really are a set it and forget type of experience. It's such a contrast.

Batman AC

310.33 - 104 FPS

310.54 - 104 FPS

12.11B4 - 120 FPS

Batman settings:

I have to run out right now but when I get back later, I will add screens of in game settings.

Ok, got Batman settings posted. Added 3dmark links.

This is awesome. +500 posts over two pretty good cards biggrin.gif

I actually get sucked into these as well, reading for countless pages, neglecting work, ha. I'd definitely get a lot more work done if these threads didn't exist.

It makes absolutely no sense to say heavy underclock. If each and every 7950 could reach what some members of OCN think they can, AMD would be releasing cards with 1050-1100 mhz boost instead of 925. In which case, no 12.11 drivers would have been needed to even the playing field and AMD would have been winning benches right from the getgo.

7970 comes with pretty high clocks in custom models. As it looks they dont give 7950 some love too tongue.gif

Ryzen is a joke to the vast majority of the market who would consider buying their product.

They do it to keep tdp down. I think that 1100mhz is a reasonable expectation on air. With a good cooler you can expect 1200mhz+.

Not really, the highest oc that I know of is Sapphire's 950mhz oc edition. I'm pretty sure that AMD must not allow more than that. I can't think of any other reason why someone hasn't released a card with an oc higher than the boost bios.

Just point out that companies give more love to the top model:p 7950 is underclock first to keep distance from 7970 and second to keep low the power consumption. But if you release your product after 8 months you can adjust it better to competition. biggrin.gif
