but on 1440P 1070 does amazing, quite a few reviews recommended it as the 1440P card to get right now

I wouldn't. I was just backing up the claim that the 1080 is more impressive over the 1070 than the 980 was over the 970. The 1070 looks good, but I am more impressed by the 1080. If it was $549, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

I have a big bang house. I had all the materials for my new house brought in and dumped on a vacant lot. I took a stick of dynamite, lit the fuse on fire and tossed it into the pile of materials. BOOM went the explosion and when the dust settled I had a new house! Amazing isn't it? rolleyes.gif

Ignorant shill! It performs around 30% better than a 970, so it should be priced more. tongue.gif

Agreed, not even the 1080 is a true 4K card. No matter what if you want 4K (assuming 60fps is important to you) then you still need SLI/CF.

That's why these new cards are irrelevant to me, 980/70, 390/X are good enough for 1080p still. Unless you have a high-refresh 1080/1440 panel, then i don't know who these cards are for. I've waited for two years to jump to 4K, all i can say is big-Pascal and Vega better finally get us there. mad.gif

I am impressed by 1080s raw power, but not by its price

with 1070 Im impressed both by its power and by its p/p (which is how it suppsoed to be for an X70 card)

Just remember that as I said in our intro, the GTX 1070's price (non Founders Edition) isn't unprecedented in the least.

GTX 470: $349
GTX 570: $349
GTX 670: $399
GTX 770: $399
GTX 970: $329

That GTX 970 was an exception rather than the rule.

Yeah, the FE still leaves a bad taste in my mouth much like Day 1 DLC but NVIDIA has proven again there are always shills who will pay anything to be first.

But the 470 and the 570 was the cut down version of GF100. The GX104 chips used to be around the prices of 460 and 560.

You think so? I feel like the 1080 is underperforming in comparison to the 1070, considering how cut down the 1070 is. Like something is holding back 1080 performance a little bit (maybe 64 ROPs).

Forceman's Law: Any AMD/Nvidia GPU thread, no matter what the topic, will eventually include a post referencing the GTX 970.

Only the best performing card on the market excepting the 1080 for $379??????? This is a travesty! This is a terrible buy! This is low range peasant food! How can I possibly cast the spells necessary to complete my quest at only 140 fps??????? rolleyes.gif

I will certainly be ordering one as soon as I see EK's plan for blocks. I'll be quite happy to suffer with only Titan X level performance for $379.

Yes. I was expecting the 1070 to be much slower especially after the 25% (?) cut down and the use of normal Gddr5. 1080 should have the right amount of memory bandwidth to avoid some bandwidth bottlenecks. Probably the ROPs is the problem like you said.

Reference card may be limited by the pcb and bios. Of course it's possible that Pascal simply cannot do any more than 2000-2200Mhz, no matter the cooling or power delivery.

EK will provide blocks for Asus and MSI custom cards but not for Evga. If you want to buy an Evga card, you have to go with reference pcb.

sounds about right

I aim to upgrade to 1070 and a 1440p 144Hz monitor this summer

the next GPU upgrade either in 2018 or maybe even later if I can help it, still same monitor but running 2018 more demanding games at 60+ fps 1440P and current top games at 100Hz instead of 60 Hz

and then the next monitor upgrade (X years later) hopefully straight to a gaming version of a ~4K 27"-30" OLED HDR Gsync monitor redface.gif (assuming such a thing ever gets made rolleyes.gif)
