980 - 66% vs 480 36%
1070 - 154% vs FURYx 16% more DCC bandwidth. (for some reason this chart shows 980 has 139% more dcc bandwidth)

So it's obvious that AMD's DCC algorithms aren't that efficient compared to nvidia. thus they require more raw bandwidth.

Really, those 100$ are total crap. The RX 480 (Sapphire model), costs here 380 levs, which is around 220$. TWICE AS MUCH. A RX 470 costs 480 levs - 280$. RX 480 - 600 levs - 350$. The GTX 1060 costs the same arm and leg (reference model). A used R9 280X costs ~180-200$.

The RX480 gets more powerful compared to GM204 as resolution increases, so it has to be a stronger memory bandwith. That cases TheTechReport shows are fully compressed and an uncompressed one, so are the best and the worst case. The median case has to be better in average to 8Ghz Polaris than a GM204.

I think that they say it in the reviews. It's just that, a texture that is it completely black, so if it's made of one color, is fully compressible.

Are not games made of random textures? Does the Nvidia Rendering method benefit from these black textures?

Black textures are compressible ( any solid color/one color texture for that matter) so you can use dcc and get more bandwidth( depends on algorithm), for random/multicolored textures, raw bandwidth matters since they cannot be compressed. that's what i get from it. correct me if i'm wrong.

color compression works even with multi-colored textures.
black textures just simply guarantees you get the maximum possible compression to emphasize their DCC efficiency.
its called a benchmark for a reason.

So AMDs compression can still improve since even GCN4 compression is behind that of Maxwell. HBM2 will benefit AMD greatly.
