The presentation also confirmed that upcoming Tesla V100 (name is just a guess) would also be designed in SXM2 form factor (which basically confirms it has High-Bandwidth-Memory). Whether Big Volta (aka GV100) would be offered in two variants (computing and gaming-oriented), is yet unknown.

GP100 already uses HBM2 as well, so not surprised there. The big question for me is, going forward is Nvida going to be making 2 seperate big chips like they do now with GP100 and GP102, or is that just temporary while yields and price for HBM2 come down and then go back to 1 big chip for both compute side and consumer side.

According to: http://www.nextplatform.com/2016/08/24/big-blue-aims-sky-power9/

Power9 comes in 2017 H2 so expecting Volta around same time, hopefully earlier

I don't even think they launched GP100 yet. If they did it was this month. So H2 seems pretty consistent. And if it is consistent, we can expect some Volta consumer cards before GV100.

H2. Usually when they say H2 that means December, but probably going to slip into January 2018, or later. Looks like they must have hit a snag, but not a surprise from NV really. Puts them in a tough spot against Navi now.

So if it's Nvidia, then 2H 2017 according to you means December 2017, not Oct, Nov, or Dec 2017. And actually slipping to 1H 2018.

But if it's AMD saying 1H 2017, like in the other thread, then that really means Jan 2017.

Got it. thumb.gif

Are you on AMD's payroll?

If AMD is ~10 months away from Vega, that means Nvidia will be in no hurry to release anything. Instead they will opt to milk the current pricing and maybe provide some trickle down milking of other Pascal chips waiting to be released.

Basically, Nvidia has all the time to launch and milk as they see fit.

Volta for HPC have been planed for 2017 for a long time but not hitting consumer market until 2018. If we get Volta gaming cards next year it will be for cheaper manufacturing and to make more chips from the limited production capacity of TSMC.
