Ohhhhhh wonderful. The instructor at the classes I had been taking is a Tom's Hardware addict, so now any future students will be sent to that review. Wonder if it's worth the tuition fee just to tell them it's wrong...

If the teacher is cool then go for it, but I have found that it is often unwise to try and teach anything to our "betters", betters in this case meaning people who give you your grade or sign your pay check.

Audio setup: Xonar Essence ST into Niles SI-275 amplifier driving CSW Tower II speakers paired with M&K MX-70 subwoofer. Headphones: DT880 Pro 250ohm

They're just higher wattage though. Its not like they're tailor made for gaming, plus, the majority of PCs on this site could run on 550w or less.

He's cool, he just tends to forget the new stuff easily. Made it a bit of a challenge when I was helping classmates plan their builds...

It's only ran for three years because you haven't used it as a 950W. Your current rig would be fine on a 400W.
I had a 650ab (I gave that to my sister in law for her first computer build).

That one is from Delta and is pretty much identical to the Antec EA650 as reviewed here. Being a low to mid-end Delta, capacitor selection will be a bit of a grab bag but it is a solid PSU. Yet another case of people giving advice when they have no clue what they are talking about.

Would you believe me if I told you that Chieftec is capable of supplying more power than the Coolmax with better performance?
