You're expecting too much from TWO chips on a single board. There's a reason the clocks are MUCH lower than the GTX580.

612Mhz is a pretty low clock.
I'm interested in how much OC headroom they left on this card. Will the fact that it has 1 less phase per core than the GTX580 affect anything?

(He wasn't allowed to reveal anything else on the die besides the GPU code due to it might get tracked back to him, also it's sideways because that is supposedly how the GPUs will be oriented on the GTX590, he claims this is a recent chip however)

I believe this is the left (primary) GPU.

no matter what it should be a really good card to put under water which is why i'm curious as hell at what the price is.

And since a 570 is somewhat equivalent to the 480...looks like I'll just stick with GTX 480 SLi since to upgrade I'd have to get the GTX 580 and blow an extra $300

I would get that dual GTX460 EVGA's developing right now and do Tri-SLI/Quad-SLI with it (there's a picture in that thread that shows a Tri/Quad SLI connector. 2 SLI connections). That is called pure win. This, no offense is pure fail. They've decided to go with the center fan. Its not that stupid but temps will be high. Looks like they've followed AMD with the fan and 2 chip design. Not that surprising though.

OT: you can't sli that card in the least bit. you are also talking about two different levels of cards.

Someone with sli gtx 580s should downclock their cards to the clocks of the gtx 590 and run some benchmarks. That would give you the performance you would expect from a 590. We can then compare the performance loss from the lower clocks.
