if i had the $ id be able to justify the purchase and sleep like a baby, but just not that well off financially..

Im still confused how your bottlenecked with a quad anyways?
It's a B3 q6600 ... The best stable 24/7 clock on water I've been able to get is 3.25. I'm no expert overclocker either, but I know I have room for improvement.

If you have that display set higher than 1680x1050 your monitor won't last very long.

Regards to bottlenecks, this subject is like hitting my head against a brick wall. It's either ppl are completely ignorant or simply don't understand it. If you want the highest scores in 3DMark06 then by all means get yourself a QX9650.

Then when we shall run an Mhill vs QX9650 owner comparison in games. And i can tell you this, you'll be regretting the day you bought a QX9650. lol

I wouldnt bet tha farm on that one either, i have GO stepping, and 3.15 is my max without some serious modding (lapping is on my horizon)

1.39 volts + vdroop wont let me get stable past this without 1.425 and 3240 stable but threshold hot! like 70-72 continuous

so be sure to know what your jumping into, i doubt its gona make a big dif with more freq, but the cache size is what you should be after....

Mhill I def don't want to make the wrong decision. Can you point me at a post that explains it? Maybe I just misunderstood it. I do appreciate the help either way.

What I meant by room for improvement was that I'm starting at 2.4 and overclocking to 3.25. If I start at 3.0 my chances of clocking past that 3.25 are a bit greater since it's a smaller jump. At least that's what I would expect lol...

I'll explain it like this....

people that buy QX9650's do so for two reasons.

1: To get the highest scores in CPU bound benchmarks.
2: For folk that don't overclock and have money to burn.

I have mentioned time and time again how CPU frequency is irrelevant if your a gamer with some kick ass GPU's in tow.

Basically, if your running at say 1280x1024 and own an 8800GT your CPU speeds will make a huge impact in gaming frame rates.

But if your a gamer running @ 1680x1050 or higher with an SLI setup, CPU speed doesn't become an important factor anymore. Because everything is GPU bound.

On the other side of the coin are those that don't game at all and want the fastest performance for their productivity, which at the same time makes the QX9650 a bad move and where lower end CPU's and overclocking makes it an unjustified purchase.

Well I'm going to have to do some more research on the subject. A big reason I thought that it was a CPU thing is because I actually dropped FPS when installing my 3rd card. All 3 of them are clocked at 621/2000 with the core/shader linked.

Also I try not to use the 3dmarks as a machine bench I try to use the actual games I play on the highest settings that's still smooth. It just seems like something is holding me back. I don't really see steady frames like I should be. Since SLI wasn't supposed to increase frames as much, but to hold frames steady instead of dropping I believe from my research.

Dude, you have 3 GTX's. That's one of the most powerful setups known to man. You don't need a CPU upgrade.

This is the monitor I'm refering to. I checked and the reso doesn't say 1920x1080, but I will take a SS when I get home to show you what I have it set at.
Newegg says that monitor is 1080p, which means 1920x1080 resolution.
