Hey OC.net, I'm helping a friend troubleshoot his rig and I'm stuck.
Asus Maximus IV extreme
Crucial m4 64gb
Samsung 1 tb
4x2 gskill RAM
Rosewill lightning 1000w gold
Originally it had one 64gb Crucial M4 as boot, and a 1tb for storage and all was well for nine months. Found another 64gb M4 and put them in RAID 0 on the Intel sata 6gbps controller. That setup lasted about six months before RAID failed. Tried to set it up again, but come to find out one of the 64gb bit the dust. It doesn't get detected on any SATA on any computer. Donezo.
We take the remaining M4 and reinstall windows and all seems well again. After a couple months he starts experiencing instability (blue screens, stuttering, freezing). This rig isn't overclocked, mind you. We throw another fresh install and make sure all drivers and BIOS are up to date on all hardware. I installed HDtune and check both the M4 and the 1tb, and both come back healthy. I install prime95 and stress the computer and after an hour it gives me this blue screen:
Followed by a no POST with this screen:
I then hard reset and wait for that screen again, but strangely it boots into windows normally. I go about using HDtune again and it comes back healthy. I get confused and decide to pull the M4 altogether and install windows on a new partition on the Samsung 1tb that is on the intel SATA 3gps port. Windows installs fine and I prime95 again and get the same two screens after about an hour. Followed by another hard reset and another normal windows boot. I'm starting to see a pattern at this point.
I bring back the M4 and test it on all sata ports, all with the same results. Same two screens after an hour of stressing. I decide to put the M4 back in the intel port and not stress the computer; just let it idle and see what happens. This time I get the two screens anywhere from 5-10 hours in. It is definitely not a stable computer anymore.
Any insight or experience with something similar will be greatly appreciated. I don't know where to go from here, to be honest.
