Hi all,

I need some advice on this. I was initially planning on getting Kaby Lake S but I found a deal on a 23 month old 5930k+Rampage V combo for approx 650 USD. I am aware it is a bit too much for my needs but at this price is it worth it to take a punt on this 2 years after release? I will probably go for a custom loop at some point in the future if I do get these. Many thanks.

Irate.

Why not? I bought two near 6 years old cpus and they are working fine only overclocking is bad, but I’m not sure now if this is caused by the cpus or rather my Motherboard and bad PSU. CPUs are in general durable unless they has been extreme overclocked/overvolted/overheated.

10 years no problem but probably you’ve to give “a lot” more cpu voltage for same clock to be stable then. They are wasted if you need to give too high cpu voltage for the stock standard clock to be stable and overclocking is impossible anymore (Electromigration).
