well i want to upgrade my pc so its a better for multitasking and al around speed(don't game much so i don't need a vid card), well first on the list was the processor. i want to go quad but i don't know if i should go with a q6600 or a q9300 am not sure how much better the 45nm will be but the q66 has more l2 cache. second is my ram I am currently at a 444fsb wall on my board because of my ddr2667 ram which at 444fsb is at 888, lowest i can set it with a p35 board, i was wondering if i should get another 2 gigs or go to ddr2800 and try a higher fsb which one would make the pc faster all around? any help is a appreciated

If you have to choose one of the two quads then my vote goes on the Q6600 too. Transcend's Axeram DDR2 800 can easily be clocked to 1066...so my vote goes for this though i am sure there are equally good or better ones.

I wouldn't even consider the Q9300.. Between the 7.5 multi and 6MB L2 it's not even a question IMO. It's Q6600 or Q9450 or nothing at all. The Q9450 is no angel either with it's 8x multi but I don't think it's as big a deal as some make it out to be.. OC'ers will just have to be a bit more selective when choosing a good mobo & RAM. I started a similar thread just the other day (Please Advise on Upcoming Build: Quad + DDR2 or DDR3 + SLi). Seeing as the Q6600 hovers around $200 it's hard to decide on one the newer chips.. especially while they're still suffering from initial shortage price gouging. Give my thread a look as theres some good advice in there and good luck in whatever you choose. It's a great time to be shopping for upgrades.

Definately Q6600 and I would recomend Gskill ddr2-1000 ram and get 2x2 Gb of it, its great if you want to overclock to whatever you want.

While I'm sure there's lots of people who are happy with their Gskill but I've never had any luck with them. I like this Mushkin set for the money:

Mushkin XP2 8000 Redline 2 x 2GB (5-5-5-12 @ 2.0-2.1V)

I've read some reviews and the D9GMH ICs on the Mushkin set really perform
