As far as GPU's go, i can reccommend the MSI 8800GTS. 512mb and overclockable too. Oblivion and COD4 maxed out with no problems or framrate drops. Haven't played Crysis yet, but i hear it's a killer. And at a slightly lower cost than eVGA's 8800GTS. Saving money is gooood.

for my ram, but now im not sure what motherboard to get... im sure that there is something better then the 780i thats less expensive but yet is easily overclockable.

i want a solid board that has sli capability and that will be able to hold me over for a couple years... is the P5E a good choice?
The P5E cannot do SLi, it can only do crossfire. I've heard good things about the P5N-D 750i mobo link. It probably suites your budget a bit better.

If i were you heres what I would build.

P180
Q6600
G.Skill 4GB RAM
8800GTS 512
DFI DK/DS3L
DVD Burner
500GB HDD
Samsung 22" monitor
good gaming mouse
good gaming keyboard

Leads to about 1200

You may have problems overclocking with that RAM. Some G.Skill HZs will be much better, the Mushkin XP line is also much better.

There are no Intel chipsets that support SLI ... apart from the SkullTrail... which retails for $700.00 and requires two Socket 771 processors to function.

The 780i is just about the same as the 680i. It's a great board if you like don't mind not having the highest clocks in the world, but if you're going for that extra edge, it just won't cut it.

I can get up to 1030ish before they start getting unstable. It didn't give me much improvement over running 1:1 though. Some people have gotten to 1100 or 1200. At any rate, RAM speed makes very little difference outside of synthetic benchmarks and the g.skill's cost quite a bit more.

Interesting... How the hell did Intel convince nvidia to let them do that?

not many more benefits than a 680i...I believe
