Yeah, I thought taking out the battery would be my only option as well. It's out now.

Robilar, as far as re-applying the TIM to the NB/SB, I already did that a while back (I have my photos a few pages back in this thread), and that had improved my temperature. That's why I would hate to see what my temps would be if I hadn't done that.

However, in that link I posted, the guy actually removed a section of the heatsink from the heatpipes, discovered that the heatpipes were barely making contact, and filled in the gaps of the heatsink with AS5, which dropped his temps a lot. I did not think to do that. It sounds like a good idea, but at this point I'd really have to take a lot of crap off my motherboard to do this, and I'm reluctant to do so. I think my only option now may be using a spot cooler. That is, if my rampage ever works again...

Yep... I think my motherboard is toast. This sucks.

I've taken the battery out & unplugged it twice, both for about 2 hours at a time. I've tried putting the Rampage support CD and a USB stick with a BIOS .rom on it for the supposed BIOS recovery tools, and nothing happened. I attached the LCD poster and all it does is give me the damn time.

I'm out of ideas. I guess I just have to send this one back.

How the hell can plugging in a SATA drive while the computer's on kill a motherboard?!? :swearing:

Wow, it's working again. I'm so happy.

I unconnected every connector, then plugged in just the power to the mobo, and it came right up. Then I plugged all devices back in and I'm sailing smooth. Really weird. I was damn scared for half a day there. This calls for a beer.

0408 Beta bios now available for rampage

I just finished trying 0406. No changes I could discern but I need slightly less vcore for 3.6 (which is where I run my chip day to day).

also, my nb temps, idle and load have dropped a couple of degrees. Don't know if its related. my room ambient has not changed.

Also, vcore readings in pc probe is now accurate to cpu-z.

Cool thing is, despite all the CMOS Clearings and battery removals I did, the OC Profiles I saved were both still stored in the BIOS somewhere. I'm quite glad I saved those.

Running on 0408 now, will report any improvements I find.

Thanks Robilar for this great info. I just flashed to 406 today, and have not had a single problem with it. I'll probably chech out the 408 beta tomorrow.

BTW, how acurate is PC Probe compared with Everest?

I really wish you still had a rep button...
