the ASUS has more ram and hard drive space for less $$. I Can't see the performance of the 7970M card being that much better than the 670MX to justify the extra $250. Although I could be completely wrong here...

Asus has always provided me with good value though so it gets my vote thumb.gif

The 7970M is pretty much on par with the GTX 680M.

Hey,

The Asus laptop is overall better in all aspects except for the GPU. The HD7970m was on par with the gtx680m, at times it was a bit below it. From what I have heard, after recent driver updates the hd7970m slightly outperforms a gtx680m, although I doubt its by much, and it varies from game to game. The gtx670m is still more than enough, and the Asus is $250 less so I would go with that.

For the extra 250 USD you are getting a much more powerful video card. About 30-40% more powerful i believe.

The 670MX is a gimped GTX 660 Desktop
960 Cores @ 600Mhz
and the memory bandwidth is 67Gbps.

The 7970M is essentially a lower clocked 7870
1280 Cores @ 850 Mhz
153GBPS memory bandwidth,

Memory bandwidth is used mostly at higher resolutions and with AA dont forget that.

Plus adding Ram and a bigger hard drive is nothing but changing the video card costs a lot.

The GTX 670MX retails for 295 USD the 7970M fetches 435 USD from sager retailers if you buy just the cards.

So theres all of that.

7970M is faster then the 670MX, I would go with the Alienware. But the Asus one is amazing! My G74 is running like a baws.

Would your warranty be voided if you upgraded/installed a new HDD/SSD and also RAM?

No. You just need to replace the original if you have to ship it back so hold onto the original. Any damage sustained IE if you put the ram in backwards is not covered.

The 7970M is around 80% faster than the 670MX, that being said, the price increase is worth it. The screen on the Alienware is better than the one on the Asus too. You all act as if the starting memory is all the laptop can have. Also, upgrading the CPU and even the GPU doesn't void the warranty for the Alienware. It certainly will for the Asus though...

However, I've heard good things about the G75VX laptops. Enough for me to consider grabbing one for my next machine even... possibly... if I find a good enough deal. tongue.gif
