I have an A305 laptop with no harddrive, could i put in a modern SSD, it boot no problem?

As stated in the specifications.

So just take the old hard drive out and then install the new one. I would recommend using a USB / eSATA Enclosure to copy your OS to the SSD then install it inside the Laptop. Also use the SSD Optimization Guide to make sure TRIM is supported etc.
