ok guys. i fix computers/phones for my friends. You know, i'm the local "tech geek" amongst my peers. Now, i was looking into a fault dv7 Ac plug in (it's common apparently) and upon taking off the speakers/mm controls, i guessed i pulled a bit too hard and POP, the connection to the mobo came off as well.

Now, can i fix this? or will i need to get a whole new motherboard?

I want to tell him, but i dont want him to get all pissed blah blah, he will still have sound, just not speakers. Further investigation has revealed this laptop is PLAGUED with problems. Usually hdd, then screen, AC plug in, then finally bad motherboards. Now, i could play it off and say "oh, well it seems like your faulty AC connection fried your motherboard and blah blah" but i'm not that kind of person and to be honest i feel really, bad. I know my way around a soldering gun, so can i just resolder this back on?

if not, what do you guys recommend?

solder it, because if he sends it back, then they will see someone has a) opened it up and b)pulled "a wee bit hard"

yea im about to just tell him, but also tell him the many issues with the laptop and to just get something newer/cheaper. He's not a techy, he doesnt really use computers much anyways. but still, its the principle of it.

I'll go take a picture, one sec

Your luck is running out it seems.

From now on I suggest just letting them pay for a repair. I know you're only trying to be nice but they have everything to gain from your experience and you have everything to lose. Unless they pay for the service of course.

now wouldnt it be funny if i went through all that trouble, fixed it all, to have the mobo fail within a month.

i'd cry.
