add me!

  • Arch on Desktop/Laptops
  • Debian and *BSD on servers/routers
  • *buntu/mint on things I need easy access to desktop and binary drivers on.
  • Sometimes I venture out into Slackware and LFS land for old times sake :-)

Been poking around linux since '94 and we've come a long way since then!

The wonderful thing about standards is that there are so many of them to choose from.

I run Ubuntu 10 and Crunchbang currently on my Precision M90. Can't really get the desktop to agree with it (working on finding a Ethernet driver for it).

Adding tag to siggy now.

Both added! Ok update on the merge- huddler was contected and it appears they 'don't have that feature yet' so were still trying to work something out. I currently have my system triple booted, and two of the oses arnt linux biggrin.gif no, not windows and osx, but freebsd and debian gnu/hurd. Freebsd has been awsome so far, and gives arch a run for its money with the documentation. The manual and handbook have to be two of the best kept resources in the open source world. Hurd is unstable, dosn't support sata, has a max ram limit of 512mbs (might be 1gb now- havnt updated recintly) and only about 2/3rds of the packages have been ported. Its a work in progress, yes, buts its nice to see the 25 year old kernal finilly come close to being usable.

The tux club- it predates ours (by four years) and is about 2.5times larger by posts but has been dead slow for over a year, just a post or two here or there. This club has been very active either in the last few months, but thats mainly because I havn't done anything with the merge (hopfully) on the horizon. After that I have some ideas to keep things active here and make it a larger part of ocns linux commminity. The new name, as voted on in the linux/unix section is echo "the 'uname' club" (excuse the syntax error mobile keyboards suck) which will give you 'the linux club" in a linux command line. Or 'the minix club' or 'the freebsd club' etc. if your running some other unix. At the moment it would seem huddler 'dosn't have the feature yet' (basicly they need more time and work) thou i have seen other threads, in huddler, be merged (albeit much smaller then these two clubs). So I guess were kind of waiting now. I'm working to merge the member lists (pms may go out at some point asking what distro you run (as tux members are listed with there distro(s) and i think its a great idea) and to change your sigs over to the new echo "the 'uname' club" one i am planning on making at some point. Also i'll have to write a new op as wierdo124 (tux club manager) works on the merge, as he is a mod and has greater power to annoy huddler smile.gif

Add me!

Running Ubuntu 12.04 off an Acer Aspire One AO532h-2964.

The original 250GB HDD is toast, so I "borrowed" a 60GB HDD. And, upgraded to 2GB RAM.

Love the new title! biggrin.gif

Might have to explain it to some of the newbies or people that are interested, but that's what makes it great!

On the issue of two clubs - it's good that we/you are avoiding two clubs on the same subject. But as you've said the other is pretty dead and there doesn't seem to be any hard feels about it. I wouldn't worry too much about it at the moment.

ours hasn't been hot stuff either in the past few weeks. anyway, even if they near dead, its good to respect them as they where here frist. they also represent I huge new member basis to tap into biggrin.gif i've been meaning to pm transhour about adding it the essental threads list and stickying it. that could help keeps things up here. on a side note, I almost wrecked my system today. installing something that was in unstable. well, I find out why its not in stable yet. when it failed to work the uninstall took out half my packages and left my system unbootable. only work from the recovery install saved everything from being lost. never again will I be temped to install something from sid on my main os
