I'm weighing options on new monitor purchases. I currently have 3 24" Samsumg 245BW's. I work on my PC all day but also do a lot of FPS gaming. So, my use case is a mix of browsing/desktop publishing and design (hence the three screens)
I'm moving from a MSI Lightning 7970 to a R9 290x in the next few weeks and intend to upgrade my central monitor.
I had planned to go to a 27" screen at 120hz, probably a Qnix model.
However, the more I read the more I'm inclined to stick at 24" for the central gaming screen and get the best 120hz model I can find.
The issue is I don't like 1080p and I can't find a 24" 120hz screen that isn't 1080p, so far. At 1080p, I would miss that vertical space.
So, can someone recommend the best 24" 120hz compliant (either OOTB or via OCing) monitor that runs at 1920x1200, where budget is in the 350-600 range. I don't mind spending the higher-end if it's worth it.
Or, can you persuade me to stick with the planned 27" 1440p screen at 120hz? My real reservation is in terms of being able to maintain 120fps on newer games at the 1440 res even with the new 290x video card, so as to appreciate the 120hz refresh rate smoothness. The more I read, the more ugly 27" at 1440/120 sounds where the fps can't keep up.
Small side consideration: I currently have XBox360 and PS3 hooked up to secondary ports on the central screen and left screen. Not a deal breaker but I'd like screens with at least 2 port options.
Advice/thoughts much appreciated!
