Can anyone tell me why I would want to spend more $ on a modem than the cheapest available?
Here's an $8 one for example...and its even internal!
http://www.newegg.com/product/Produc...Internal+Modem

why would I need or want to spend over $100 for for a cordless like this one that takes up more space on your desk.....
http://www.pcmall.com/pcmall/shop/de..._id=pwbfroogle
Im just trying to figure out the differences in modems and the why's and why nots...what do you guys think?

One on those newegg reviews says it pretty well:

"Spending anymore on a modem is silly. This device works well. Spend your savings on a great video card"

Because that's what a market is. It just provides an open area for commerce. There are people who have specific brand preferences and will buy from a certain company no matter how much anything costs.

Well, the two modems you linked are like apples and oranges.

As for the 7.99 one, the only thing I can say is: I am sure it will work just fine, it just may not last as long as a more expensive one. (keyword: may)

I think you'll be fine with the 7.99 one. I have gotten some 10 dollar modems before and they work just fine, i mean, dial-up is slow either way, but they should do fine, plus if one of them craps out it's not like you broke the bank buying one.

what if I want to go with a cable connection? can anyone give me a link to a good internal cable modem? is there such a thing? does it work like a dial-up PCI card modem?
