Wired or wireless? The WRT110 is a Draft 802.11n router, but it's still got faster wireless than the 802.11g spec of the WRT54GL...

my WRT54G with DD-WRT also ran at around 3mbps, so there's nothing wrong about those speeds at all

What's your speed without the router?

I get 18mbp/s through my WRT54G (v2.2 not GL) that has DDWRT.

my ISP is 7-8Mbps.
i get about 8.5Mbps with my previous router. + lower latency/ms ping.
but with WRT54GL i get higher ping and slow download speed.

You have to do the first flash with one of the Mini Generic versions first, depending on how your flashing then go to the SP1/SP2 or whatever.Did you do flash with a mini version first?
