To me it feels like that strix bios is just giving you numbers. I dont think the clocks on the card are really what they are being set to. Some bios trickery. I mean i wouldent put it past Asus to do something like this. Like maybe there is a +100mhz or something offset they "Calibrated" into it so 2.1ghz is really 2ghz. This could be why the bios its self is total crap for stability vs stock bio's. I think its one of those "Hey look were cool look our card clocks to 2.3ghz but loses to founder editions at 2ghz so just dont bench it just look at the clocks." I bet they put 5.0 badges on there v6 mustangs to.

Could i be wrong? yeah chances are yea but there is something going on with that bios and i do not think what you are getting reported in msi are really the real clocks. Anyone have a killawatt and wanna to a test. stock bios at a set clock then the xoc at the same one and see if they are pulli9ng the same amount of power. If we get X watts then we get a few less with the xoc.

Has anyone checked the InGame FPS differences from any OC other than benchmark scores?

Did some test in the only game i play. World of warcraft useing /timetest.

4k everything maxed out msaa 8X there is a drop. I need around 2.175 on the core and 550 on the memory to get the same fps average i get with a fe bios at 2.065 with 550 on the memory. Same clock with the XOC i lose fps.

Based off 10 run average. i'll do some more test later. The FE bios i used was 86.04.11.00.0C tdp set to 120 and the card is warecooled. But from what i been seeing its looking like an 8-10% drop but im only going off one game and we really need more data. But thats what im seeing .

Going to get some food. I'll do some more testing when i get home

This is strange. Could it be that the increased voltage is somehow affecting performance? Has anyone tried to use the stock voltage with the same clocks prior to flash, to see if there is any difference?

Could it be something with memory timings?

Has any one who flashed the strix bios and say they get worse preformance but higher clock speed, check what happens if you dont put it to 1.20v but set it to a little lower ?
I read some users said that 1.150v was a goos spot, and then just overclock it abit more then you were able with your stock bios ?

Exemple of what i mean: your stock bios 2050mhz and then instead of going 1.200v and 2200mhz put it to ~ 1.150v and just add 30-50mhz more and do some benchmarks. Is it still worse preformance then with the stock ?

What Im thinking is that if you push the memory to high you will get worse preforemance, maybe the gpu is somehow thew same.

I have an EVGA FE 1080 waterblock and I have a msi X ek seahawk 1080 coming tomorrow. Will they be able to use a terminal to connect the two it seems the msi card looks bigger or does the waterblock all line up

Ok so i did some test. Strix bios sucks.

Strix bios vs Nvidia's FE the 01 version ill test the 0C version tonight.

World of Warcraft running at 4k all settings maxed out 8X MSAA 5 run average using the in game benchmark. Same driver and both cards were running at 1.05v. GTX 1080 is water cooled temps never went over 45c. FE was set to 120% tdp in afterburner

OCX 2.177ghz

137.468

OCX 2ghz

137.468

FE 2ghz

145.719

GPUZ was running logs. Despite the overclock on the OCX i saw no improvement. in FPS. 5 run average is spot on. FE at 2ghz 8.215 fps increase clock for clock. Thats a 6% increase.

Final thoughts. looks like its just tossing up numbers theirs no real increase in that bios when i overclocked it or left it at 2ghz. The FE is another story. Clock increases show gains in games. The 177mhz overclock i should of seen an increase but nothing. In fact the numbers are the same and i did not expect that.

FE bios is faster. 86.04.17.00.01 is the version i tested I will test 86.04.11.00.0C later tonight since thats the other nvidia fe bios.

The OCX gives you some numbers to look at in afterburner but offer you nothing in terms of performance.Clock for clock 6% is a big gap. The gap gets bigger if you clock the FE higher. I seen gains of over 10% in early test that i did.

So here are some real world numbers. Backs up what everyone has been thinking. The bios offers less performance.

SiriusLeo, I never saw a loop piped like that. Are you getting proper circulation from the cpu block and gpu block?
