Hm.
Two reasons.

1. The 8600 series has only 32 stream processors - the core itself is underpowered.
2. The 8600 series has a narrow and slow 128-bit memory bus - the 7900 series has a 256-bit memory bus.

Ah, thanks.

But can anyone answer my cooling question? Hehe. Should the side fan point in or out on an antec 900 case?

personally I dont like side mounted fans, CPU fans that blow at the mobo(or pcb) or girls that pick their noses.

Mostly it just spreads heat around...(and looks disgusting)

i thought it was pretty well accepted that the 9600 scales much better in SLI than the 8800gt. IMO the 9600 is a much better buy right now, but then I'm cheap.

Alrighty, I now am the proud new owner of an EVGA 8800GT Superclocked edition. I've upped it even more from the stock values to new speeds of: 730core, 1854 shader, and 1029 Memory. I ran 3dmark06, and I got a score of 11511. Here's the breakdown:

SM 2.0: 5496
SM 3.0: 5617
Processor: 2336

I'm comparing my system to this guy with the same processor type as me, except 200mhz faster. (Mine is a 5600+ OC'd to 3.2ghz, his is a 6000+ at 3.4ghz.)

His processor score is only about 170 higher than mine, yet his GPU scores are 5982, 7733, respectively for 2.0 and 3.0. I was wondering, does this mean that my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU? Or did he volt-mod and overclock more? Or what?

Thanks again, OCN.

EDIT: Oh wow, I'm an idiot. He's running SLI, no freakin' wonder. I should learn to read.

Thanks anyways, OCN. ARGH. ><

Edit2: But, is my CPU bottlenecking? Thanks.
