Far Cry is getting a little old now but still has some of the best looking scenes around. The water is the best, the grass is very very good, not to mention the gameplay is killer!! Far Cry is a great LAN multiplayer game as-well. I'm installing it again, one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played.
I wonder if we could get a far cry server running and have a session.....mmm

For its time, Far Cry was leaps ahead of everything else that was out. It still looks decent today. Remember, Far Cry is the game that started the current trend of pushing the graphical envelope a bit farther with each new game, thus resulting in many more graphics card upgrades. The gameplay is mediocre I think, but I played Far Cry because of the stunning graphics of its time.

But you have to realize, FryCry was released only a few years ago, the Crytek engine has been around since 2000. It started developement in 1999, so it is by far the "best" engine in terms of "graphics-to-time released" ratio.

The game is 2 years old (+1 day) I dont see the point in comparing it to FEAR or HL2 who went out this year... it was the game who gave us a preview of what the new generation of game would look like. Hell just look at the others game that got released in 2004... Unreal Tournament 2004? yah not even half as good looking then Farcry, it was the prettiest of the year lol

HDR is definitely a must, it's worth turning off the antialiasing.

But in general I agree, the graphics in FarCry, while very good, aren't as amazing as some people maintain. The big fuss about FarCry really was that it came out of the blue, total surprise to most people; and it beat Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 to the "next-gen" graphics punch, it was out months before either of them.

The vegitation is some of the best but the rest of it can't really compare with newer games. It's 2 years old. Having hdr and x64 really makes it look amazing though.

When I first walked out of the cave onto the beach for the very first time, my jaw dropped to the floor

The graphics were so good all I could do was walk around in circles for 30 minutes admiring the scenery. If you raise the contrast higher than the default the scene has more depth and looks mre realistic. And the water...OMG it looks so real I have to put on my swiming trunks just to play the game.

I just bought the game a week ago too.
