Hey there,

I will be spending 1 year in the UK, starting september and I was wondering which is the best pre-paid card provider around. I tried to see on some websites but O2 is being rather annoying. Their website will not show me anything because I am not in the UK .

Regards,

O2 is great, sucks that you can't view the site. Try a UK proxy or just PM me about what you want to know

I like house music.

02 has the best signal in the UK I think, although they tend to be slightly higher priced.

Vodafone are good

O2 tend to work out well as they tend to do a lot of 'free calls to others on O2', so your friends without much credit will generally talk to you more if you are on O2.

I've been on T-Mobile for over a year, and have found them very good, but am now switching as O2 have the dell streak. I'd reccomend T-mobile just as highly, from my experience.

Look for a place called "Poundland" it's the UK equivalent of the dollar stores, they carry the sim cards cheap (no credit, but heck), and they will work in any unlocked GSM phone.
Vodaphone and O2 are the best for signal, Orange comes with offers for cinema tickets if you like movies a lot (it's a 2 for 1 deal on Weds), T-Mobile is also OK.
Virgin, and some supermarkets (like tesco) resell other carriers under their own name (Sims available from their stores).
Virgin is (I think) T-Mobile's service, and so is Tesco's (I believe).

All these people saying O2 are best for signal are wrong. O2's signal coverage is pants. Their coverage map shows this clearly. As well as my own experience.
Orange is better (even though i hate them), Vodafone has the best coverage.

I've been with Orange for a while and I've never had any trouble with them. For Pay as you go rather than contract I'd probably go with Virgin.

Virgin also offer Sim Only/one month rolling contracts as well. That would only work assuming you have a phone you already want to use:

or:

Three have a pretty goot 30 month contract, includes unlimited texts and 150mb internet
