ROFL....how about have a design that can actually be manufactured?

That doesn't make sense.

They shouldn't have accepted the production order if they were incapable of making it.

Imagine, yourself (TSMC), choosing to write an essay (create cpus - accepting the production order) on a subject (28nm) you don't understand, and then complain to your teacher (Nvidia) that the subject was way too hard. Irony much ? If you can't do it, then don't sign up for that class (28nm cpus)

I don't think it's TSMC's problem. Every company but Nvidia (even TSMC themselves) has said 28nm is doing really well.

It could have something to do with the High Performance line of their 28nm production process. Most of the companies that have favorable yields use the Low Power line, almost all of the companies using the HP line have yield issues [1]. If they change the production process midway that could imply difference in physics between the different chips. I wonder what's the exact reason for this halt though.

the price probably wont drop, but it should be noted that AMD had enough chips before this happened that there should not be any supply issues before the lines resume

I really hope nvidia have enough stock to ship their new gpu world wide. seems I need to prep to buy as soon as it launch so I won't loose the moment since TSMC will out of stock for few weeks according to the news.

To the people implying Charlie is making stuff up, you should probably go back and look at every article he's ever written. With the benefit of hindsight, you'll be able to see most things he writes always seem to end up being true. Remember Fermi? You all said it was lies and he was an AMD fanboy... and it all ended up being true. wink.gif

Notice how AMD nor any other chip designer has complained about 28nm yields, except for nvidia? lol

I realise you're trying hard to sound clever, but theres no irony at all. He's relaying info from sources which is different from making assumptions.
