I'm afraid that's not a admission but a insult which goes further towards substantiating Moragg's post of claiming you are being harsher on AMD. Likely for the very reason you stated... Just sayin'.

no point even arguing on that subject, neither "team" will ever admit to being more obnoxious. might aswell just drop that one now lol.

It didn't say they are obnoxious full stop. I said they are obnoxious, for the time being, because of the specific reasons I listed. But it's a good propaganda move to hide part of the truth and talk out of context (Clinton had mastered it when he attacked Kosovo, he claimed Serbia committed atrocities, but what he didn't mention was that both sides committed atrocities).

I reckon Nvidia fans come across as more obnoxious because they pay higher prices for "similar" performance cards. With the last gen it may be true, but I can see some people sticking to Nvidia and finding different arguements if AMDs hardware frame pacing works as promised.

With Intel it's a bit harder since they are better and their superiority is "justified" to an extent, but I still think the cost difference in the platforms is way higher than it should be. And Intel themselves are pretty obnoxious with the whole "new gen, new mobo" thing they have going.

And AMD - the fans often get into the price/performance arguement. Some need to understand that the concept of value changes with person and their income, but otherwise they're fine.

On the whole though most people are fairly reasonable, though they all have a slight bias/favour to one side or another.

For the past few months (I was talking short term in general), NVIDIA was the only choice for the very high end/"price is of little consequence to me" crowd. Also people that spend a lot of money are not all obnoxious, e.g. I notice some people saying "I can't wait to get 4 Titans!" and they are lovely people, with others saying "I don't care about your prices discussions, I spend up to $5,000 for my cards" (not so nice). Also that whole category is a minority (it may not look a minority in this specialized forum), with the bulk of gaming (not professional) cards being concentrated around the $250 and $400 budgets (judging by the determination of companies to always have products at those ranges, but less determined to go higher (without maybe their costs forcing them (780?) or special cases of 'luxury' products (Titan)).

I don't disagree, I just think the opportunity to come across as obnoxious is greater if you pay more.

Thread is so derailed.

Going by die size , if a R9-290 was ~$500 it'd be the same pricing as a $650 GTX 780 , but that's not including the Nvidia markup

$556 R9-290X http://www.antarespro.com/8054900-item-SAPPHIRE-21226-00-40G.aspx

It's weird considering Bioshock tends to favor NVIDIA and Tomb Raider AMD. He couldn't reveal the price but he did tell me we'd be ''extremely happy'' about it. Considering it's aiming to compete with the 780, I wouldn't be surprised to see it priced lower.

-He didn't tell me Never Settle bundles will be eventually included with the R series, he simply told me people love bundles and it's a great incentive to buy so they'll definitely try to have some in the future.

-The Sharp monitors were both 4K 60HZ and 30''. They looked good but not nearly enough to justify their ridiculous price tags of 3,000$+. 4K doesn't look that much better than 1600p at that screen size but that's probably due to the screen being too small to display UHD in its full glory. Still, for those who absolutely want a 4K 27'', you'll be disappointed.

-290X is designed to run at 95c so it'll get hot but it won't throttle nor get damaged by this. This is the target they're aiming for. The GPU will run really hot but will still be stable.

-Mantle will be strictly up to the developers to use or not to use. They apparently have some big name players in the field who will use Mantle. Dice is the first big one but expect to see more in the near future. Mantle is what everyone say it is. It brings a console-like development environment to the PC. I wouldn't hold my breath for 20% better performance. I would however expect much smoother and better ports.

-The tech demo showing Ruby with the not so great TressFX had around 23 different effects designed by AMD and it was just a beta. A finished version will apparently look much better.

-CPU's running on both systems were i7-3960X.

-The AMD rep said he saw the rumors about the pricing online and the most widely accepted prices are ''completely wrong''.

-He couldn't reveal anything about the specs. No GPU-Z. Nothing. Just the cards as is.

- I attempted to get the price out of him by first asking how much the monitors were worth and then by asking how much the whole system was worth. He didn't bite. biggrin.gif
