i never had problems with my 3gb 280x at 1080p. The only game i played that managed to past the 3gb was GTA V, but only if i turn all the settings to max (that was unnecesary for 1080p, and not worth with a card of that level)

everything is wrong with buying a SLI/CF set-up when you can avoid it tongue.gif

anyway 192-bit + GDDR5 is more then enough bandwidth for 1080p gaming (and I question your judgement if you run 1440p with an X60 card .. not to mention there is almost zero chance anyway that people on a budget who buy cards in this price range game on a 1440p monitor)

3GB VRAM should be enough too, though Id get 6/8GB versions of 1060/480 anyway

just need to wait and see how it stacks up against the RX480 in game benchmarks .. though RX480 will probably be slightly ahead thumb.gif

also Id say they will price this $30-50 above RX480

objectively RX480 will probably be better, but 1060 just needs to be close enough to sell decently anyway thumb.gif its the Nvidia magic redface.gif

besides, point was about fanboys who buy whatever they want . and even in that situation in that specific game 2x480 is better than 1x1080. from price, power, almost everything.

Lol news flash, the ones who did that comparison originally where actually AMD wink.gif
If what you claim is true, than they could have just written "why buy 1080 for 1080p when you can do it with a single 480" right? Instead they showed 1080p with 480 CFX, as their "benchmark", but "forgot" and omitted the 1440p/4K performance, or showed the actual FPS numbers. Funny that we take manufacturer performance numbers as fact. Only certain people take it for granted.

And if those 2x480s can't come close to a single 1080p at 4K or 1440p, which is where it is aiming at? Will it be mandatory acceptable that price/power/almost everything, 480s CFX is worse? You do realise the funny irony here I hope? Lets see how that setup compete in every other game smile.gif

Also power? 480s in CFX will take 300 watt according to AMD stating the 480 is a 150w card. A single 1080 takes 180 watt.

Also Dying Light, Hitman etc..

Not so sure.
If the 1070 is at the 980 TI performance, and the RX 480 is around the 980 performance (though DX11 performance isn't AMDs strong suit atm), you can also assume that the 1060 will rival that performance in the 1080p/low settings 1440p.
Either way both the 480 and the 1060 are aiming at the 1080p performance, while the 1070 aims at the 1440p, and the 1080 aims at the 4K.

That's the point. You don't understand those games don't need as much as the usage is there. Said games just are happy to use whatever there's available.

I get the point. As you can see in my sig rig I currently use my HD 7950 (which has 3GB), after I returned my 970 back then. Ofc it CAN run just fine, but if you're getting a new card in 2016, why would you buy a card with 3 GB again and limit yourself for the whole time until you get another new gpu? Either get the 6GB version of the 1060 or better yet the 480 with 8GB.

Edit: No point in arguing though, there probably will only be a 6GB version I think.
