well, I thought I'd post to share my new cans that I got today. I really lucked out on this deal! I got a pair of Grado SR80 cans that are 3 weeks old for a great deal and included was all the original box/paperwork/receipt and some modded Senn hd414 yellow pads
these cans have an aggressive 'front row' sound that is great for rock. I know that Sennheisers are very popular on this forum so basically, the traditional Sennheiser 'house' sound is laid back and detailed... like a 6th row experience. So far I haven't gotten too much time to listen to them. They aren't as comfortable as my Senn HD595's nor are they as detailed, but for rock they definately have a nice 'edge' to them that I am enjoying at the moment!
(currently listening to Papa Roach which has a grungy guitar sound and the Grado's are reporducing the sound wonderfully)
These are definately going to be a can that I hang on to for a while. I'm tempted to pick up a pair of Alessandro MS1 to compare the two and then keep whichever one I like better... we'll see that might have to come later as I've already spent enough $ lol
but anywho, these cans will be added to my growing list of headphones!
Audio Technia ATH-FC7
All of these cans except for the PMX200's and ATH-FC7's get regular use (I can already tell I'll use the SR80s
) so those 2 cans are listed in my for sale thread if anyone is interested.
For amps I've got a desktop amp that I built myself last month. It's a maxed out desktop PIMETA with AD843 op-amps. I've got some opa627bp's on the way so I'll try them out. the AD843 is a faster, more aggressive sounding op-amp where the 627 is slightly more detailed. I'll play around and see what I like better.
I also have a Little Dot Micro+ portable amp that gets lots and lots of use around campus!
