Hi, about a year ago I bought a pair of Shure 750DJ for 100$. They were not comfortable at all. They are really clampy. With time, I became used to them but are still uncomfortable. I am currently looking for a new pair of headphones.

Budget : 200$ Shipped
Type of music : Electronic (Mostly trance) and a little bit of everything else
Perks : Comfortable, respectable bass (Not a bass head)

I have looked at Beyerdynamic DT 990 250 ohm but people are saying it leaks a lot which is not something I am a fan. I do not really like hearing the sound that is coming from the outisde.

Thank you

Any of the Sennheiser around the ear felt padded headphones are going to be extremely comfortable. I originally picked Sennheiser headphones based on a recommendation in this forum for around the ear headphones that would be comfortable for long periods of time with glasses on and I am deeply satisfied with them. I have owned three pairs of Sennheiser headphones now, all extremely comfortable.

The AKG 701s are just slightly above your budget by about 30$ new, so you could probably find a pair gently used for under $200. They are also very comfortable.

They are over my budget and I rather buy new. Does anyone knows if a DT990 250Ohm needs an amp or it will still work fine?

Would an Essence STX or even cheaper Xonar DGX be able to drive them properly?

You're going to hear everything happening around you with DT990s because they are open headphones. My DT 990s are hooked up to my onboard ALC889 without an external amp, and they sound fine and get loud enough for all applications, and they can get too loud for many. However, I don't know how loud it would be if I hooked them up to an iPod or something, but I don't expect a major drop off.
