basically u'll get an renewed and beefed-up version of SBLive!
so GET ANY X-FI BESIDE Xtreme Audio!

we really need a sticky thread about this X-Fi thingy...
I know this, I just forgot which versions it was. D'oh.

What if the Xtreme Audio and Audigy SE are the same price for me?

Exrememusic is the best value IMO however its discontinued so you would have to ebay.

However I really would look into the Bluegears inspire card as its very nice and is better than X-fi . However one thing X-fi does have and thats great compatibility with games.

Just out of curiosity, why is the Audio bad? If he is just using speakers that aren't terribly good won't there be no difference, or is the Audio just unreliable?

If you want the latest EAX support you have no choice but to go for an X-Fi. Personally, I think that the BlueGears would be better suited in your system though. Robilar seems reasonably impressed with the one in his system. I don't intend on picking up another Creative card anytme in the foreseeable future myself. Their driver development in Vista isn't all that good, which prompted me to flog my X-Fi Fatal1ty. I'm now waiting about for the Xonar D2 to be released.

The XtremeAudio doesn't do EAX.

Mostly they remembered only that it was a delight to hear the voice speaking, all that it said seemed wise and reasonable, and desire awoke in them by swift agreement to seem wise themselves.

Creative's Audigy series card are still good cards. I've got the Audigy 4 and it sounds great with my 5.1 logitech speakers. Get a sound card like one of the Audigy series and get a decent set of speakers. You'll be happy I'm sure.
