I wouldn't cancel the Performance Pro, but that's just me tongue.gif

Actually, it's $10 more ($229.99). smile.gif But both stores are eligible for ShopDiscover 5% cashback.

You're right. I meant with $10 visa promo, but forgot to add that tongue.gif

Prices just keep on dropping for SSDs. Definitely need to move to a new SATA standard or go PCI-E like some companies did for their SSDs.

yeah this is crazy..i just bought performance pro for $295....hmmm....$220 is a decent difference in price.....m4/sandisk extreme are really dropping prices.

240gb - 256gb: Sandisk Extreme ($220) vs. Crucial M4 ($230) vs. Corsair Performance Pro ($295)

....hmmmm....decisions...decisions.

EDIT: Price just increased to $275 for the Sandisk Extreme: http://www.buy.com/prod/sandisk-extreme-240gb-2-5-sata-iii-solid-state-drive-ssd/227072805.html

Well, spent an hour looking. Everything comes up negatory on that. Sux having a m2n-sli board and searches keep popping up m2n-sli deluxe. From what I have seen, doesn't look like I can change over. Guess I'll have to just wait a month till I get my Z77 board. meh, no bigy for now. thumb.gif

Hould be...though I can not say for sure....

I am currently revising my recommended section. I am definitely adding the SanDisk Extreme to it. It is a pretty good drive.
If you have no issues with the SandForce controller bug go ahead and upgrade your current SSD if you like. More space is always a positive. biggrin.gif

Hi Sean. I don't see an "edited" date or any revision date on your main recommendation post, so how do we know when you've updated or revised anything to your guides or recommendation lists?

Thanks.

I update it all the time lol. Today alone I did two edits, usually I do small things dailiy, like grammar, new info here and here, reformat, etc...and when i do a lot or something important I post up something saying so.

SATA are par more reasonable price wise and perform similarly in real world use to the average consumer.

i decided to man up and go with my initial thoughts...corsair performance pro..not canceling...i still don't trust sandforce (Sandisk Extreme)...one of the reviews mentioned how the TRIM didn't initially work..and they couldn't explain why (they had to do a re-review)...and also how though it is an extreme fast ssd..perhaps even the fastest ssd overall..that the benchmarks weren't as consistent across the board as marvell controllers (corsair performance pro)...which lead me to believe marvell is just more reliable...even if people say Sandforce is now "fixed". I believe having consistent high results (being able to reproduce them) across the board is more important than being #1 in some benchmarks.

Long story short...sdd prices are falling...$220 for 240gb - 256 gb is amazing...i paid a premium ~ $60 more...but i have a peace of mind not picking up Sandforce. If I had to go Sandforce...Sandisk Extreme would be it though.

OK no more research for me...I don't want to know anymore, since I already bought the corsair performance pro...no more changing or second guess my decision....ignorance is bless...lol

FYI - SanDisk Extreme 240GB is back at $220: http://www.buy.com/prod/sandisk-extreme-240gb-2-5-sata-iii-solid-state-drive-ssd/227072805.html

hi everyone.

the prices for the m4 just dropped to 99€ for the 128gb and 199€ for the 256gb version, so they appear to be quite a bargain. my question: does the 256gb m4 still perform a lot worse than the smaller one or the competitors, or has this been fixed somehow via a firmware update? because id rather get a 256gb ssd while im at it.

for comparison, here are the current prices for the main contenders in 128 / 256gb (as far as i understood):

ocz vertex 4
143€ / 283€
corsair performance pro
158€ / 273€
intel 520
151€ / 280€
samsung 830
125€ / 245€
crucial m4
100€ / 200€

prices from german online stores btw. im not really in a hurry to get an ssd, but id say in the next few weeks id like to decide. itll be OS and some gaming, i dont care how fast stuff gets copied manually from/to the disk, all im interested in is quick bootup times and fast application/game starts. so i guess writes dont matter too much(?)

thanks a lot in advance for some hints.

What do you guys think are the best 120-128 GB SSD's for Raid 0? Thinking about the Vertex 4's versus Crucial M4's. I like the Raid 0 setup as I don't care about boot times and I think fast sequential read helps loading in games/zoning etc unless someone can convince me otherwise. wink.gif

Here in the gaming benchmarks you can see Raid 0 helping out quite a bit:

hm, that review does indeed make raid0 look amazing for the m4. could one expect the same sort of performance for the 128gb drives? that would be pretty neat, considering their latest drop in price...

Hey guys I need some help on buying a new SSD. What's the best SSD for under 200 USD? I was looking at the vertex 3, vertex 4, crucial m4, or samsung 830. They are all around 120/128 gb. Which one would be the best for gaming? Thanks for the help!

Edit: The crucial m4 and vertex 3 are also much cheaper than the other two options. Is it really worth paying the extra money for the vertex 4 or samsung? I am also concerned about long term reliability. I want it to last 5+ years.
